They should petition the Southland to get back in the league. Viator is a good coach, just stuck in a program with a ceiling of 5 wins and even worse resources.

Why do they have to be relegated to ULM but ULL is Louisiana? Shouldn't they be Louisiana also?

Hard to get behind firing a coach during this particular season.

Lots of chatter and push back in the North LA radio market about the drop to the Southland. I haven’t heard the reasonings against it, so I would be curious to hear the argument (I’m guessing financially they would take a massive hit dropping to FCS, but I don’t know the numbers)

However, they are an embarrassment at the FBS level. They are an FCS program at the FBS level

Because they lost to us 70-20, and they have a budget less than a few Southland teams. Plus, we are just that awesome.

Anyways, you hate to see this for any coach that didn’t have a chance the second they walked on campus. That school has been bleeding money for years now.

Viator did the best he could fighting against a school administration that would probably just rather have D-III/non-scholarship athletics.

Going to be very curious to see who lines up to apply for that job. What's Jerry Baldwin doing these days?

Who would even take that job? You are doomed the second you walk on campus.

Most G5 coordinators will be hesitant to take that gig.

Best of luck to Coach Viator. He shouldn't have any problem finding a new coaching job.

I'm guessing the hit is big enough that it wouldn't be offset by the savings from being in a more geographically friendly conference like the Southland.

I don't know how Southland teams travel, but my guess is that for basketball and baseball and maybe even football, you stand to do a little better at the gate when all the teams you play are a lot closer to you and you could build up some better natural rivalries.

This can be said for at least 30 FBS programs. There needs to be a whole bunch of them who drop down.

This is ridiculous and untrue.

Most of the MAC needs to drop down, as do a few MWC schools, CUSA schools, Sun Belt schools, and UConn.

He'll be back in the FCS at best. He never did much with McNeese, and now he has this puke stain on his resume.

I don't think there needs to be a bunch that drop down.

I think there could be some better alignment for the schools if they had more football only conferences and let the other sports put together leagues that made more sense geographically.

Gulf South baseball conference would send 5 or 6 teams to the ncaa tournament yearly

Yeah he was only 78-33 as the HC at McNeese. He never had a losing record there. Y’all haven’t won an SLC title since he has left. I’d say Viator was McNeese’s whole program.

Why? What do you or they gain from them dropping?
They lose revenue, better television coverage and the ability to go to a bowl game.

And would save a lot of travel money, and could possibly get some decent TV rights for their tournament.
