Sunrise won't be until after 8 am in the winter in Knoxville, TN. With latest sunrise at 8:45.
Fail to see the problem. In East Tennessee many kids get on the bus in the dark for half the school year. With DST permanent they can enjoy an extra hour of sunlight after school.

shite...some people will complain?
Oh no....
That's why there is a push in implement permanent DST in the first place. People complaining that it gets dark too early in the winter. The point being that after a relatively short time society is going to want to push things back to where it is are now because they will bitch about sunrise being too late in the winter.
As is stands now we essentially have 7 months of DST and 4 months of ST. The 4 months of ST are during the shortest days of the year Nov - Feb. The extra bump of it getting dark at 6:00 pm instead of 5:00 pm during those months won't stave off the bitching about having to "start work and school in the dark"

This is always the dumbest argument for DST. It's the dead of winter, deal with the seasons.

That’s the dumbest take ever.

I agree it should be standard time year round. Afterall it's the STANDARD time. Might as well just shift the whole planet's clocks by an hour if they want daylight time year round.
I don't understand people's obsession with the sun going down after 8pm. That just causes us to use more energy in the south. I'd love for sunset to be at 7:30 right now like it should be instead of of 8:30.

Non-lazy people already do this 365 days a year.

Adjust school and work hours +1 hour. Problem solved.

If this doesn't pass, the push will be for Georgia to move to central time and reject changing at all in the future.
The stupid thing about federal laws.
You can opt out of this one.
But you can't modify it (i.e. permanent daylight savings).
This would be a perfect opportunity for the Fed government to punt and let each state do their own thing

Oh then hell...we tried something 40 years ago and no way has society changed at all in that time so we might as well not try it again
AI Search:

In December, sunrises in Baton Rouge occur between 6:45 AM and 7:05 AM, getting slightly later as the month progresses. Sunsets happen early, around 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
AI Search #2:
quote:
If permanent Daylight Saving Time were implemented in Baton Rouge, you would gain longer evening daylight year-round, but winter mornings would remain noticeably dark. The latest sunrise of the year would occur in early January at 8:02 a.m., rather than the current 7:00 a.m. Standard Time. and sunset will be 6:30
we we all see if this is good or bad come December/January (shortest daylight of the year) and its after 8:00 when the sun rises and sets after 6:30. the 6:30 part sounds good, but not sure how i feel on 8:00 sunrise.
it will even be worse in the north:
quote:
If daylight saving time were made permanent, Detroit's sunrise on the shortest days of the year (in late December) would be delayed until roughly 9:05 a.m.

Absolutely NOT. This is a situation that demands federal involvement.
The origin of standardized time can be traced to the railroads expanding across the country. Trains brought our quick expansion, interstate commerce, expanded communication, all kinds of things. It became apparent very quickly that without standardized time in our states things got squirrelly. Imagine trying to develop schedules with each state doing their own thing? That's the problem that brought about our time zones as we know today.
How about trying a airline trip with one or two transfers of connecting flights and no adhesion to a national time standard?

It being dark when I wake up or when I go to work doesnt effect me in any way.
It being dark when I get home from work, sucks arse with 2 little boys.
So im cool with it.

Pretty much everyone I know loves this. Would 100% prefer sunrise at 8:30 am vs sunset at 4:30 pm.

So is this permanent fall time? Or spring time.
Posted on 7/14/26 at 6:31 pm to Major Dutch Schaefer
I don’t like it. What is wrong with the current arrangement?

My recollection is that sone people in Florida pushed the end of it when a couple of schoolkids were hit by cars in the morning darkness.

The house didn't just pass it by three or four votes. 291 vote margin, for Kris's sake!
Posted on 7/14/26 at 6:51 pm to mauser
Why can't the school hours just be delayed for one hour?

So now I can sleep
In an hour more during hunting season. Hit the woods at 730am instead of 630am. More time to meat up at Waffle House prior or BS on the dirt road prior to hitting the woods
