I am the tip of the zipper. I instinctively move to the front of the line and have never had an issue getting over. If you don’t like it, suck what’s behind my zipper.

frick that. You zipper when the lane ends. Why would I sit in a lane if I can pass 60 cars/18 wheelers to then zipper merge at the cone?

I can’t remember what state I was in, but several years ago, each construction zone had signage that read “USE BOTH LANES UNTIL MERGE POINT”. Then, about 100 yards from the closed lane, another sign read “MERGE NOW”. It was brilliant, and the signage kept the portion of the population who think they need to get into the continuing lane way too early - compliant.
