I am the tip of the zipper. I instinctively move to the front of the line and have never had an issue getting over. If you don’t like it, suck what’s behind my zipper.

frick that. You zipper when the lane ends. Why would I sit in a lane if I can pass 60 cars/18 wheelers to then zipper merge at the cone?

I can’t remember what state I was in, but several years ago, each construction zone had signage that read “USE BOTH LANES UNTIL MERGE POINT”. Then, about 100 yards from the closed lane, another sign read “MERGE NOW”. It was brilliant, and the signage kept the portion of the population who think they need to get into the continuing lane way too early - compliant.

Their lane isn't ending and your lane isn't continuing. Two lanes are becoming a new single lane.
It is immaterial if existing lane lines are being used to mark the boundaries of the new lane. It is still a new lane. It isn't a pre-existing lane. It is a new lane that two old lanes have to merge into.
What do you do when two lanes merge by the outside halves of each lane disappearing and a new centered lane is created? Does your brain explode trying to figure out who the lane "belongs" to?

Zipper maddness, I move to the lane open and expect others to do the same. The warning sign are 1,1/2 and 1/4 mile ahead of lane closure.
I view zipper merge like cutting in line.
We seem to be normalizing poor behavior. Screw the warning sign, rush to the front of the line and butt in.
Take the signs down if you want people to take part in this dumbed down driving manuver.

The zipper merge is about merging, utilizing the available open space, and improving traffic flow. If you hit someone, that's on you.

It's not poor behavior, it's proper behavior. The signs are a warning that you need to merge ahead - do they say "merge NOW"?
I agree that you should not 'rush to the front of the line' - I avoid that so I don't look like I'm just cutting in - I approach slowly if the lane is empty.
Because so many people don't understand this, they really should have signs promoting the zipper merge to make it clear. They sometimes do, but we need it all the time - or send notices to every DL holder, and make them sign and acknowledge, or lose their DL. Then no one can claim ignorance. It should be on every driver test.
I need a sign to put in the right side window - "I'm ZIPPER MERGING - NOT 'CUTTING IN LINE - GOOGLE IT"

these are the consequences of what stupid people think because its a zipper situation that they are going above and beyond to be dickheads and try to cut in front of people at the very last moment flying up when they weren't even here long after their lane ended and they think they have a right of way to fricking hit you and not be at fault.
