When you own family deceives you for years for their own personal gain.
What a kick in the gut.
Long story short. Had 2 acres promised me all my life.. Spent lots of money on the surrounding acres we own around it. Cleaning it up, mulching. Building a pond.
So a step sister can come put a house right there and enjoy a beautiful pond and clean land all around...
Long since past family members never put things in writing. Just verbal promises that are now broken after all these years, hard work and thousand of dollars later.
very sad today for WWII Collector.

Sorry to hear that. Nobody keeps their word in this day and age.

I’ve seen families I thought were close ruined by inheritance. I watched it happen to my mom’s brothers and sisters concerning the division of property. My wife and I have experienced similar things over the years. Sometimes you watch people irresponsible with money get rewarded for it. I just learned to laugh at it and move on. Life isn’t fair sometimes for responsible people, lol. My advice is don’t stay bitter. It’s ok to understand what happened, but don’t dwell on it.

If it's any consolation, you can make them cut you checks to maintain it, or you can watch it go to shite as they don't do so.

Put up a big, ugly fence blocking the pond.

100%. I have taught my children not to believe land will be given unless it is put in writing. And even then sometimes conniving family members get wills changed.

You didn't know your stepsister had a claim to the adjoining land I assume? You have a choice here. You can sell it and find something else or you can find a way to make peace with and enjoy your stepsister/stepsisters family.
There's of course another option however. Be petty and nasty and fight with her the rest of your life.

I’ve seen first hand recently where the unsuccessful beneficiaries got more than the successful becuase they already had thier shite together….also where step children got more family land than the actually blood family it was a mess

I had a college friend who got out and found out the money his dad had been giving him in college was being put on a credit card the dad took out in his name. It took him years to pay it off.
Ruined their relationship.

Never blindly assume that family can be trusted.
Never let your guard down or share too much information with them.

This happens to me routinely, lol. I adjust my lifestyle to my income. Apparently not everyone is expected to do that. It’s almost amusing at this point. Grown adults acting like children. I’ll say my kids have seemed to pick up on my example.
