Sorry to hear that. People go crazy when there is money involved. It certainly reveals one’s true character. And usually it reveals that most people have none.

This is why it's so important to have a will and to let all the beneficiaries know who is getting what ahead of time.
I've known people who were scared or just felt it to be too morbid/strange to talk about with their parents, kids, etc. It's worth getting through if you can avoid shite like this.

Good advice.
When my girlfriend’s dad died he left everything to her - stepmother got nothing. It wasn’t a million bucks but not far off. Stepmother went after her hard, multiple lawsuits. Stepmother wound up getting killed by a tornado in the middle of all this. It’s not funny but it kind of is

So she "owns" the two acres.
You own the pond with a lot of acreage included that surrounds the property. the work you did was mainly on the acres you own now.

LOL, that’s one way to go for sure. My preference is don’t spend time dwelling on the lives of bad people. I have bad people in my family. I basically let them go. Once he gets this all worked out just focus on his quality of life.

If this is correct….. I’d put in a tall fence on the border of the property blocking her view. It really wouldn’t need to be very long, just long enough to block her view from house. And you could use resalvaged boards, ie, a poor looking fence.
Also, put up some survey stakes near the entrance.make in known your putting in a storage unit complex. If she asks say the construction people explained where the best places was to put them and that against her property line.

Legally he can't inherit anything without his father's estate going through probate or going through "a succession" as we call it here in LA.
Inheritence laws in Louisiana protect him a bit more than inheritence laws in other states but his father passed 12 years ago and it appears he and his siblings, if any, never attempted to finalize their father's estate which is bizarre considering there's a 2nd wife and her family that will be trying to run interference and hide his assets.

But no one sure told me that when I was bulldozing brush, building ponds and cleaning up these past 25 years.
As long as it’s not thru manipulation or fraud I can understand some variances and even changes with parents passing away at different times and with their actual children as stuff could have happened while living that equalizes it some.
But for a step parent to take land that has been handed down multiple generations and give to her own kid who isn’t blood related to the family and not to the actual next generation that it had been promised is just wrong. I hope you find out that she is in the wrong. What a freaking bitch.

If the facts are as stated it was your father's separate property and your stepmother doesn't own it unless he transferred it to her or left it to her in his will. You need a lawyer ASAP to review the succession documents and do a title search to establish exactly who owns the property.

According to the OP's original post this was land the Great Grandpa and then Grandpa and then Dad owned and he just assumed would magically pass to him without any legal proceedings and/or documents.
The succession of his father's estate will tell all but it appears he's not aware his father's estate was ever probated. If it was he would have been involved unless there was a "legal" will excluding him from his father's estate. (Unlikely)
This is actually a good thing and if no one has ever opened his father's succession he needs to be at the courthouse first thing tomorrow morning and open the succession in his name so he is in control.

so now there's about 37 family members laying claim to the house and i just opted out completely. i don't give a shite what happens to it. i feel bad for my mom (who is long since deceased) but for her it wasn't about the money..just sucks we rolled with such an incorrect assumption for decades.
so the house will quite frankly, go to hell.
this is how you get abandoned property. 37 family members each with a stake no one agreeing to anything with anyone else.

That reminds me of a story. There are about 80 acres near where I live that someone originally purchased in the late 1800s. No one ever did a succession on it during the succeeding generations and now there are over a hundred known heirs and probably many more unknown. One of the descendants pays the taxes to keep it from going to a sheriff's sale but no one wants to go to the expense of unsnarling the title. So there it sits.

I collect WWII.. Each and everything connected with the past is important to me. Wheter it be a letter home or 5 acres where my grandfather plowed potatoes in 1931
Oh.. Btw... 1 man.. 1887 - 50 acres - 8 Kids... That's 6 Acres each...
I was able to purchase the 1/2 acre where it all began... The house all 8 kids were born in... It is the pioneer home in the above picture.
Not only did they deceive me, but the deceived by 82 Mother who has vested interest. Who even went to help the Step Mother in 2018 after heart surgery...
Family Betray runs very deep. But I understand many, many things. Even others people actions.
The Good Lord will Bless me as Long I do the best that I can for Me, my immediate family, animals and us towards a better future and goals.
I continue to help assist my other side of the family with our service industry, real estate developments and endeavors.
The OT did not disappoint... I hope that I haven't ether.
I just want to sit in my study and write screenplay for a living, while researching and collecting WWII with my dog next to me, and a good woman happy in the home.
I'll build that Museum and Produce that Movie too.
