I do miss the old ones with that wallpaper and booths.

I eat subway every now and then it still tastes fine to me. The one time I tried Jimmy Johns it was awful.

Lenny’s sub shop however is tGOAT

They used to do what Ms Fields or Jimmy Johns does with the near constant baking. You could smell it if you were walking by the restaurant.

I dated a girl who managed a subway few years ago. They prebake the bread the day before or early in the morning now during closed hours so yea it’s not as fresh

I didn’t get all the poor opinions of Jimmy Johns in this thread. I haven’t had in a about a year so I went and grabbed a sandwich today. Definitely a let down. The bread was tough, the toppings were scarce, and damn it’s expensive for what you get.

Maybe this is a local thing

JJ is better than Subway like 99 percent of the time. Veggies better, bread better, meat better, service better, and the restaurants are cleaner than Subway by an absurd margin

JJ is boring. That's about the biggest fault I can find with it.

If you go to Subway, you smell like Subway the rest of the day.

Lol far from a fatty. Which is why I can enjoy the occasional McDs and not worry about it.

Subway is 90% bread and water. At least McDs has figured out how to pass their mystery meat off as real, sort of. It’s shitty food but it tastes good at least.

I used to go to subway when the one on college drive was ran by the lady that looked and sounded like Ann Coulter. She ran a tight ship.

Subway has sucked since they started cutting the bread from the side. They used to cut it from the top and the ingredients didn’t fall out. It just sucks now.

My last experience at the Subway in Galliano by the Walmart was weird.

Guy and girl ahead of me trying to decide what they want. Girl asks, "what is provolone?"

Guy says, " I dunno."

Sandwich artist asks what they would like to which the guy says he wants a turkey and provolone.

Sandwich artist asks if he would like cheese on it.

He says no.

An attempt at a serious answer.

Subway made their way initially by marketing themselves as a fresher, but not markedly more expensive alternative to the lunch-burger crowd; this helped people feel good about themselves spending $5 for a footlong and a couple more for a drink, instead of $7 for a Big Mac meal. Subway hit its stride.

Because they were so successful, other franchises like Blimpies and Quiznos tried to ramp up the competitive options. Subway couldn't decide what it wanted to be-- the economy sandwich shop, or the higher end and greater variety sandwich shop; it tried to split the difference.

This led to the end of the regular 5 dollar footlong, the offering of absurd options, temporary menu items that seemed to make the staff less trained, and eventually lower profits; that led to squeezing in the costs of ingredients-- I think the tuna example is a good example, as was a change in primary turkey suppliers about 2005.
Likewise, to save wastage, the frequency with which bread was made became spaced out, leading to staler, blander product.

If Subway wanted a real revival, it would take one of the two paths, and stop trying to split the middle. I don't want 3 new options for base Subway Club sandwiches. I want the same Club I had 20 years ago, at a price that's at least in the same ballpark. If you want to have 6 new sandwiches every season, don't be afraid to ramp up the cost another 10%, as long as its accompanied by no more nickle and diming behaviors that affect underlying quality.

Dude... I’d eat sushi out of a Burbon street vending machine before I’d eat at Jimmy Johns again. That shite is nasty.

Pedophilia is bad for business... who knew

I never understood why that guy was ever the face of their company. He's goofy and a terrible actor/spokesman, and they could have made anyone into a bullshite weight loss accomplishment guy, or whatever the frick he was.

And I wouldn't be surprised if his pedo behavior was fostered by his showbiz peers. I'm sure that when he gets out, he'll still get a cameo in the latest Sharknado movie. Weiner did.

Not sure if it’s nationwide, but Potbelly is the GOAT

Firehouse is damn good, too

I live across the street from a subway and it’s my “oh shite nothing is for dinner and I’m almost home” food.

Jimmy Johns isn’t bad, but the fact that they don’t heat any of their ingredients is annoying. I’m not a big cold sandwich fan.
