Used to love Subway, was always a treat when I was growing up. I remember going to the one on campus or the one over by Louie's damn near every day for lunch to get a BMT when I was at LSU. Sucks to see it's gone downhill so much.
Also really miss that Quiznos that was in the Burbank shopping center by Walk-Ons. That was the only one in the city when it closed. Now I think the closest one is in Hammond.

As another poster said it feels like more of a business model than a well run restaurant. The so called “sandwich artists” started functioning as robots.. (2 slices of turkey, two slices of cheese, two tomatoes, three pickles, etc) what you got was a shitty sandwich that would have to be upcharged to have more than 2 pieces of processed shitty meat on it. I remember going as a kid and they had just white/wheat bread that was baked fresh that day and they didn’t skimp on the meats/toppings. I also think it is the increased competition and over saturated nature of that business. They have subways in roadside gas stations which can cheapen the perception of the brand also. Maybe the time of the $5 footling is when they went cheap on quality

I didn’t get all the poor opinions of Jimmy Johns in this thread. I haven’t had in a about a year so I went and grabbed a sandwich today. Definitely a let down. The bread was tough, the toppings were scarce, and damn it’s expensive for what you get.

Jimmy Johns is a rip-off and I don't understand the obsession with them

The face of Subway was a pediphile. It all went to shite after that.

The fat frick pedophile Jared

When they stopped carrying seafood/crab—not sure if they still have in LA.

I don’t mind an occasional 6” heated turkey but Firehouse subs are better tasting. I do not like Jimmy Johns sandwiches. Does JJ have any heated sandwiches ? It seemed like I choked on JJ bread and lettuce. It was 80 % bread and lettuce. It was cold.
Subway, like Burker King, has a lot of trashy employees who don’t take pride in their job. Not every employee is that way but many are in my experience. Susan is more concerned about her smoke break and gets pissed when she has to come in the store and help a customer. I dont like being disrespected as a customer.

I can go to Publix and get a Boar’s Head footlong for the same price or cheaper than subway. Better meat than subway.
That, and the whole franchise model made it too easy/too plentiful locations, which downgraded their reputation, along with Jared.
If I’m doing a sandwich shop, I prefer Jersey Mike’s over the others

Just in St. Bernard Parish I think we have 5 Subways...
And a lot are run by ethnic people

When people found out their bread was made with an ingredient also found in foam yoga mats

Cookies from Subway are tGoat.
Hate the over fascination with Jimmy Johns. I can make what they have at home.
I was also appalled at how good which wich was the first time I got it. Only one I’m willing to waste calories on now

This right here, Jimmy Johns absolutely is the pits. What are your options, tomato, lettuce, cherry peppers and mayo? Splurge with salt and pepper.

JJs and Quiznos tells you what comes on your sandwhich, so you don't put the wrong thing on it like you can at Subway which makes the sandwich taste like shite

Pub subs (Publix) for the win

Does anyone associate Subway with “fresh” tasting food (bread or toppings) anymore?
Nope.
Jimmy John’s. Fresh bread, anyway.

In the 1990s, Subway was a decent sandwich shop and a viable alternative to McDonalds or Burger King (which has also since declined).
When did it start going downhill?
I don’t think it ever did. We’ve just gotten better sandwich shops as a response and recognize Subway for the piece of shite it always was. Any deli that doesn’t have a slicer is fricking terrible.

The price is fricking crazy now. It's like $12.50 for their combo with a large drink. $5 footling is officially dead.

Jersey Mike's is excellent. They're my favorite.
Subway...the last time I went there, I told them I didnt want my sub toasted. Maybe the employees are automated robots because she just had a hard time understanding that I wanted it not toasted and without cheese.
