Meh. People have long memories. What they did, especially with the circumstances at the time, was deemed by most to be grossly offensive (including by me I might add). That being said, I think their comments were put on blast by the administration / media to solidify support for the war.
It pretty much killed off all opposition. Their stupidity was a useful tool. The faux outrage machine has been used from both sides of the aisle for awhile. Most "victims" are stipid. This is just one more example.

ehh, just the first noticeable public shite talking against the current president in the 21st century. which is at an all time high now.
their music sucked anyhow and it was only a matter of time before they faded into non-existence. my bigger problem with was they handled the negative feedback. they played the victim instead of standing behind their point and providing context or validation to it.

If by faux, you mean fake? Ask their managers and tax accountants if the rage was fake. They basically went from being a super group of the time to a nobody. Their bank accounts took a huge hit. And on top of all that, people that loved them, suddenly despised them. They basically ceased to become a relevant musical group.

I would imagine country music fans are mostly conservative/conservative leaning.
If that's your fan base and you denounce the president of the US who is a conservative and from Texas, I would imagine you are going to get a good bit of backlash.

Yes. Their banter wasn't as strong as anything you hear these days. But certainly at that time in country music, women were expected to shut up and do what they were told. When they refused to bend over, the right wing attacked.

Just because he got paid handsomely by another company, doesn't mean he didn't insult a vast majority of his base. There are certain Nike clientele that have no issues with him. Others will no longer buy their product.
Nike made a PR move to pander to a certain portion of their customer base. But that doesn't mean Colin and his kneeling didn't insult a great amount, most likely a majority, of his base. He thumbed his nose at his country publicly. That will always insult a great deal of any base. And will make a small portion that hate America, and Law enforcement, celebrate.

The type of people buying the majority of Nike products are not conservatives who got pissed off by him. That's the main difference between him and the Dixie chicks. They pissed off all their fans, he pissed off just a portion.

Good point, and for the most part I agree. But I do think that he pissed off a pretty big portion of his fan base with the football issue. Not to mention, 100% of his employer base.
There's still a ton of everyday good ole boys that watch and support NFL football. That portion was pissed off. And it was a lot of pissed off people.
