Timothy McVeigh referenced Bin Laden in some of his writings. The "Hispanic" John Doe #2 has never been identified. Hispanic could just as easily be middle eastern.
Another weird coincidence, one of John Grisham's books had a subplot of a guy living in a cave in Afghanistan and pulling the strings for a homegrown terrorist. This was some years before 9/11.
