Were the Dixie Chicks victims of faux outrage when they denounced Pres. Bush in 2003?

Remember when they said this a couple weeks before the Iraq War started?

quote:

"Just so you know, we're on the good side with y'all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."

I remember they were basically blacklisted by everybody after that.

No, I truly hated Natalie Maines after that - still don't listen to them. Which is fine, as I never really liked their music to begin with.

I think the whole Bush family is rotten to the core and Dubya was a terrible President, but going overseas and begging Europeans to like you by trashing your own country is some fricked up, repugnant shite. Talk about pathetic.

I was glad to see they never really recovered after that. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you...

I can’t forgive them for what that one did to Charlie Robison.

They chose to make a negative political statement about a sitting POTUS, and people with spending power pushed back. I don't see the problem.

Throwing a haymaker at your primary fan base was probably a poor business decision.

I guess they thought it would earn them fans from the other side, but... oops.

I don’t know the details. Broke his heart though. He’s better for it in the long run.

Plenty did this. Punk bands had compilation albums called rock against bush. That played to their base though. Angry outcast teens and such.

The Dixie chicks slapped their biggest fans in the face. That was the issue. Their fan base voted for bush.

This.

Green Day released American Idiot in this timeframe which included a number of swipes against the right and middle America over the Iraq war and they trumpeted it as a big victory for the left when it won a bunch of awards. They were fine because they were a California punk band whose fan base tended to be more lefty anyway.

The Dixie Chicks basically flipped off the people who bought their albums and concert tickets and those people voted with their pocket books.

It's not really faux outrage when their career is actually torpedoed.

Nike boycott is faux outrage. Dixie Chicks never really recovered.
