But today I make roughly 20 years of non-smoking. It CAN BE DONE. If I can do it, anyone can. It takes effort, will power, a strong faith, and you have to WANT to do it. Thanks to all that have supported me through this amazing tour of living life in a good way.

I quit cold turkey and was an a-hole for two weeks but it got better.

I quit dipping and using Zyn. My blood pressure and resting heart rate went down a good bit.

Wish I'd never started.

20 years and the urge is still there? Nicotine is a hell of thing. I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't form habits (good or bad) but saw my dad struggle with giving up smoking for years before it finally just became a non factor in his life.

Just made 40 years smoke free. The first three days were rough, and it took another 10 years to get over the desire, but now the smell of cigarette smoke is repulsive to me. Still the hardest and smartest thing I ever did.

Yes. Especially with coffee or a drink.

Gonna start up again at 80.

Just a heads up in case you didn’t realize it. You’re still an a-hole

My dad quit cold turkey in 8/8/88

He has never gone back. It can be done.

He had been smoking since 12, and was up to 2 packs a day when he quit.

Congratulations!

Nicotine is a beast. I’ve been quit for a bit, almost bought a pack last night, glad I didn’t.

Also, I like the idea of starting back at 80… gives me something to look forward to.

Awesome, great job!!! This December makes 7 years for me. I quite cold turkey and never went back. I tell everyone that you can never take 1 more drag and the urges never go away they just become less frequent and easier to overcome

Good deal, August marked 18 yrs tobacco free for me. Gave up smoking and dipping. Dipping was easy because it was just a crutch for when I couldn't smoke and I hated everything about it but the nicotine.

For me, the habit was all of it, not the nicotine. I was a 'social smoker'. Pouring that first drink on a weekend, or hanging out on the patio with friends, and I'd smoke a pack in a night. Beach vacation? run through a carton over the course of a week. But I only smoked while I was drinking.

I quit a couple of different times when each of my kids were born, but always ended up going back after a year or 2. This past year, I totally lost interest in going outside to smoke. I would smoke if I had cigarettes in the cabinet, but I quit craving a cigarette with a drink. That was back in April, and since then, I've smoked a couple of times, but I didn't get the same satisfaction as I used to. I think I'm done with it for good.

Just make darn sure you don't pick it back up again. You smoke one you're back to a pack a day immediately. It's unreal.

What is this, two threads about addiction fighting each other for validation? "I used to drink." "Well, I used to smoke." No one gives a frick.
