Fastest path to make it back to a WS is
1. CRANE relinquish all influence on baseball decisions and hire a legit GM who has autonmy. No more senior advisor BS for bagwell.
2. trade everyone of value and restock the farm with players set to hit MLB between 2028-2030.

Not what i am suggesting. Its the fact that he and Alvarez ahould not be on the same roster at this point.
If you intend to give altuve his shot at 3k, he needs to be a DH, the team will not contend anyway during these years, so the answer is do something with the other guy that helps thr franchise take a giant leap forward by 2029/30

Highly unlikely he gets to 3,000 now. He will be 39 the final year of his contract. He is 480 hits shy with a likely large portion of 2027 games canceled.
He got 131 hits in 2026 with 524 abs. OBP barely above. 300 and OPS. 701. I dont see how any sane org keeps giving him 520 abs.
I love the guy and he is the GOAT for this franchise but reality is here.

You are correct, looks like i missed how it was structured.
30 million in 2027 then it appears either 10 million kr 13 million per year for 28-29'. So not quite as bad. But the conundrum remains, a roster with both alvarez and altuve is built in self sabatoge by deaign if you intend to give Altuve every day at bats to try to get to 3,000 hits (which i believe is no longer possible for him).
Hard decisions need to be made to shorten the suffering. They kicked the can far enough.

I am not optimistic about the near and mid term future of this club if crane doesn't t hire an autonymous GM with full authority to right the ship.
You are saddled with 3 years 50 million of Altuve who is now a 36 year old below league avg hitter and someone who should never be playing in the field. But you also have the best DH in the league who should also nevrer be playing un the field.
Hard decisions need to be made. Half measures in either direction will prolong the suffering.
Couple this with a fledgling farm system and MLB pitching staff with more holes than stable options and the mountian is very steep here.
