I’ve been enthusiastically married for 51 years. I have three wonderful children married to three wonderful spouses that I adopted as my own. I have 7 gorgeous grandchildren who are worth even more than my life. I have spoken directly to God, and he immediately responded.

AE has gotten better under its current owners. Got rid of all those cheap lines such as Nomad and Road Warriors. They are offering more limited runs such as Spectators and others. There was a PE firm that hired a CEO who said AE needed to pursue the sub $200 market. Those days are gone.
They are selling the sneaker shoes because that is what guys are buying. Adapt or die.

Yeah. Not much else you can do with the Saks space but condo or hotel it. But ask the Four Seasons how that is going. And of course you've got the interconnected Westin tower right behind Canal Place.
Canal Place faces a lot of headwinds. Several mayors in a row have let Canal Street go to seed. It's like being in Haiti. Banning weed and sidewalk merchants would be a good start. The tougher issue are all the low rent tee shirt shops. Wish we could close those.

Higgins Mill lace up boots. Phenomenal footwear. I have two pair of black and one chili and one Brown. I wear with suits and jeans. Waterproof.

Some people think they have to be dressed in designer clothes so that others may consider them important. I pray for them because they are so misguided. If you have to have special clothes and shoes to be noticed and respected you are nothing.

Somewhat bad take.
A well dressed person conveys a message that he /she cares about their appearance and pays attention to details.
Shoes are a big part of it. Plus it is fun to have a variety ( I have many haha).

To that, you could say just get Cleverly or Lobb instead of Alden the difference is huge, and you don't have to deal with Alden's lasts being all over the place.
I like AE because they are a good place to get styles I don't wear constantly. Styles I wear every week or multiple times a week I will pay bespoke prices, for the once-a-month shoes AE is a great option. If you find a style you wear and the Alden last in the style fits you well they are a better option for shoes you wear consistently. As we go more to a casual attire world it is harder for most people to price up from AE.

I just like nice shite, in general. Whether it’s my clothes/suit, shoes, watch, whatever. I’m at a point in my career where I have a decent amount of disposable income and I reward myself.
I couldn’t give two shits if someone notices my watch or my shoes and recognizes the brand, I buy/wear it for me. However, somebody people do, then it turns into conversation of two or more people with similar interests you might not have otherwise had. Weird how that works.

Also, for someone who has to wear dress shoes everyday - suite and tie pre-covid - higher quality shoes last longer due to better craftsmanship. a $500 pair of shoes will last a long time if you take care of them. Longer than the sub $200. Would you like to replace cheap shoes every year or get nicer shoes that can hold up.
To put it in the mouth breathers lexicon, do you want a $17 Wal Mart fishing rod or do you want the nicer Penn/Shimano rod? Same difference.

The Cole Haans and J&M, or any shoe under 200, is using glued soles, usually fake stitching, and cheaper leathers. They usually only offer two widths, D and EEE. They can't be redrafted or if they can, it's not worth it.
The better shoes, starting at $300, have Goodyear welts (or Blake Stitch in some cases), sewn on soles, better materials, and better leather. They can be redrafted and last up to 20 years if treated right. AE offers shoes in A, B, C, D, E, EE, and EEE widths. Get that with a $150 shoe.
Why do the better brands cost so much? It's not because of image. Alden doesn't spend on advertising and only had a few stores. It's because of construction. The more expensive the shoe, the better built it is.
