I’ve actually said “yes” to that question many times. What if it slipped their mind that they forgot the salt shaker? I’m just saying it’s being considerate asking it even if 95% of the time you don’t.

As someone with some, no shite. I’ve never once taken that question offensively and think they’re just trying to make sure I’m comfortable, which 95% of the time I am, but there is the 5% of the time where something can be slightly better and the person obliges me and vice versa.

Many, many times.

I don’t EXPECT anyone to say yes, but to offer is good manners and hospitality. If they say yes, then what’s the problem with helping out?

re:
My family does this, and if the person who was asked needs anything they'll let the person who asked the question know what they need. The person who offered will then bring from home or pick up the items and no one is angry about the situation.

I'm genuinely surprised that so many people on this site (and their families apparently) are miserable pricks. If someone in my immediate family needed me to pick up their entire grocery list for whatever reason, I would. I wouldn't let them treat me like Amazon Fresh just because they're lazy, but if they have a reason for not being able to go to the store, no problem.

Its not difficult to be kind. I really think most people on this site put on an act.

Yeah we ask before we heading over for a family function. Usually the answer is like “we need more ice” or “some more wine, or beer or mixers”.

And we’ll stop on the way to grab some because that adds to our enjoyment as well.

I thought this was a mandatory question when you're going to the concession stand. Especially if it's a bit of a hike. And if around other people you know are around, even if not in your group you ask.
