Try not to sweat it. If it was your wife, partner, or children that did this, be thankful that they cleaned the dishes. Remember, it could always be worse.

I’m guilty of this with laundry. I could easily put more dirty clothes into the washer and I recognize that I’m being somewhat wasteful (although our washer adjusts to the appropriate fill level) but for me, the thought of having all the laundry finished outweighs the wastefulness in my mind.

It may not be the way that others would do it, but everyone of us gets to do what we want to do, whether others agree with it or not. The quirkiness of our “routines” are just that. As long as it is not malicious, harmful, or hurtful to others, in the grand scheme of things, much of what we let annoy us is just that, an annoyance. Let it go. Let it be.

If it wastes, leading to a higher water or power bill, I'm not going to let it go.

Same here. No rhyme or reason to how things are put in there.

Because you now have to rewash the cutting board since there was no way to wash the backside with the plate leaning on it?

Welp, sorry to tell you you'll be taking it in the arse soon. Slippery slope, friend. No pun intended.

I wash my dishes in the sink and then put them in the dishwasher, I suppose to sterilize them, because they’re already clean. I have no real good reasoning why I continue to do this other than it’s habitual, and I can’t stop myself.

It was turned on just before dinner last night. I hand washed the dishes last night since it was running. Just about had an aneurism when I went to unload the dishwasher before work this morning. It's the little things that sometimes get me.

I have the opposite problem, my wife will not press start if there’s room for one more glass. She’ll go to sleep with it 99% full

Yep, uses it as storage for dishes that need to be washed

You both are odd. Why does it matter if it was run with few dishes? Who cares about "wasted" water unless you're in Ca.?

I think the OP's main issue is that it was run right before dinner.

By hand washing the dishes, you wasted the 4 gallons of water you saved by running the dishwasher.

If you don’t rinse them first the dishwasher won’t get all the stuff off.

Kind of like in order to get your truck clean you have to pressure spray it off first before going through the drive thru car wash or you end up with road grime streaks

I live in Louisiana. The one thing I do not worry about conserving is water. We have plenty. And we will get more. More than we need most likely.

Besides, he didn’t waste it. He washed dishes with it. That’s not a waste. Leaving the hose running is a waste. Leaving the facet on while (well, if) you brush your teeth is a waste. If you use it, it ain’t a waste.

And the typical problem of not knowing how to load it so things are organized and easier to put away.

Your wife must be my wife's sister. My wife hand washed two plates, a 9 x 9 baking dish---no lid, 3 large cooking utensils, 2 glasses and 2 forks and knives.

The countertop drainboard looked like it had 20 dishes in it with no room for even a shot glass when she was done. She has absolutely no idea how to arrange things to fully utilize available space.

Could just wash the dishes by hand not use a dishwasher all. More clean dishes and none of that BS to come home to.

White People Problems is a comedy song

It's no Larry The Cable Guy or Jeff Dunham, so you might not like it.
