I mean, they certainly aren’t good to live near. Are you trying to say otherwise?

We haven't scaled what these things will mean through their lifespan. Given what some suspect they could need in terms of power and resources, I don't find concern all that crazy.

Wow, ANOTHER person that hasn’t watched Terminator 2.

Anti data center talk is libturd propaganda. These centers are bringing much needed jobs and stability to main street USA

Being a resident of Utah, and fairly familiar with that part of the world (Box elder County) my biggest issue here is the power consumption. Unless they're building a nuke plant onsite to power it, there is no way we have the infrastructure to get that much power to that location. The location is SUPER remote. (SO remote that the google street view cars have never made it there... )
The biggest problem they are gong to face is finding the amount of fresh water they are going to need. The surface and groundwater sources there are all high in salt because of the previous elevations of the Great Salt Lake. .

What about the situation involving Lake Tahoe where their power supplier is going to drop them because the data centers need the energy more?

I live about 3 miles from where Microsoft is about to break ground on what will be one of their flagship data centers. It's wild how rabid the anti-data center crowd is here. Like IP mentioned there are A LOT of lies about various aspects of its operation that people just buy into without a second thought.
Social media is going to end up being the deathblow for humanity.

To be fair, it's in Terminator 3 where it is revealed how it all unravels.

How long are we going to keep the data centers before the next great leap in innovation makes them obsolete? What do we do with the boxes then? More fulfillment centers (my grandparents called them warehouses, but that sounds lame).

I think of this as more of an indictment on the energy policies over the past 20+ years, solar and wind turbines are "great" on paper but at what cost in terms of scaling up power on demand?

There is one dude in West Feliciana (he is barely literate) who shares every anti-AI post he comes across into the town/parish groups. If anybody points out something that isn't accurate they get called a libtard even though most of the stuff he's sharing is from wacko lefty pages.

Until construction is over, then there will be a skeleton crew to rack and stack, electrical and HVAC contractors that show up once every 30 days, and everything else will be done remotely.
A data center is a data center is a data center. No tax incentives for any of them.

Good grief, man. Do you think they just put on a blindfold and throw a dart at the map or maybe they actually survey the area and determine that the resources are available and the impact to the environment and the residents is designed and engineered to be minimal?
It’s not a polluting chemical plant or dirty oil refinery. It processes information.
Suck it up Utah. I have no patience nor sympathy for Nimby.’s.
Your device isn’t going to work very well without data.

I barely follow any of this stuff but read they are building 10 power plants for the Meta Center here in LA. Sounds like they already though of this.

I hope they are building their own fire station too.

I won't disagree about energy policy, but in this case, it's more than that. Even if we had a surplus of power, at the present time, there's no way to get it to this location.
