Anti data center talk is libturd propaganda. These centers are bringing much needed jobs and stability to main street USA

On the construction and engineering side

They don't produce a lot of permanent jobs

Good grief, man. Do you think they just put on a blindfold and throw a dart at the map or maybe they actually survey the area and determine that the resources are available and the impact to the environment and the residents is designed and engineered to be minimal?

I know EXACTLY they targeted this area. Cheap land away from people.

While I haven't been on the exact location of this site, I have been within a couple of miles of it numerous times (and not on the freeway that to the north). Have you?

Again, I have no real opinion on the matter. And I certainly didn't express them here. I'm simply stating objective logistical challenges that are going to have to be overcome before this thing can be built for people that may not be familiar with the unique challenges of this site (because I've basically been there).

Oh, the ignorance and irony of this statement. I bet there isn't a home within 10 miles of this place. There are no Nimby's there. And there's a reason for that.

I barely follow any of this stuff but read they are building 10 power plants for the Meta Center here in LA. Sounds like they already though of this.

I'd settle for getting rid of the solar panel farms.

Well, instead of opining on a message board about it, you should call the company and all of the authorities and get a meeting with the engineers and let them know what you have discovered. I bet they would really appreciate it to have such a sharp engineering mind to advise and guide them because clearly they haven’t considered any of your concerns.

Good. One community in Missouri just voted out everyone supporting data centers, including an 8 year incumbent. It’s crazy how they are suddenly going up so fast, property is being taken, and hidden ownership. Isn’t one in TN owned by China? We don’t need this. And imagine living on property where it’s nice, quiet and rural, and suddenly a days center pops up in the acreage next to you.

I’m not claiming the engineers haven’t considered these issues. I’m simply pointing out that the site has real logistical challenges that aren’t obvious unless you’ve been there (which I have). That’s relevant context for the discussion, not “opining.”

What about the situation involving Lake Tahoe where their power supplier is going to drop them because the data centers need the energy more?

Should be pretty simple and easy to put regulation guard rails on a situation like this.

I think they look for places where land is cheap and where they think the people are too poor and politically disengaged to stop them.

I don't think they care about the environment or the impact on residents beyond doing the bare minimum requires by law.

Every site has challenges. Try building a chemical plant or an oil refinery on the banks of the Mississippi river. Do some deep thinking on the challenges presented.

Every site has challenges.

It’s why we have engineers and engineering.

They've been very successful in terms of "farming" loads of cash for certain people.

Even if we had a surplus of power, at the present time, there's no way to get it to this location.

If they don't have the energy infrastructure to power it then do they even have the fiber necessary for the data center?

I mean I'm sure they will. Eventually.

Would you like one literally in your back yard? Because that is what is happening in a lot of places.

His little cult has their marching orders and will defend them with the usual rhetoric of “libtards” and “tds” without having a serious conversation

Outside of dealing with the Army Corps Isn't that one of the easier design scenarios?

I live about 3 miles from where Microsoft is about to break ground on what will be one of their flagship data centers. It's wild how rabid the anti-data center crowd is here. Like IP mentioned there are A LOT of lies about various aspects of its operation that people just buy into without a second thought.

Social media is going to end up being the deathblow for humanity.

There are idiots in Corpus protesting the idea of a data center being built there because of water concerns (a real thing for the area)

Meanwhile Exxon and the Saudis are using more water than about 500 data centers combined to make single use plastic and no one gives a shite

People are stupid
