First thing is they all matured at a different pace. A 19 year old male isnt actually all that mature. You remember right? Its the species. Second, ultimatums work. They just have to know you mean it.
My father in law was drafted right out of high school and was in Vietnam at 18-19 years old. He left Vietnam as an E-5 sergeant at 19. He had a leadership position in his platoon. It’s amazing what young men are capable of if they are held accountable. Maybe not 100% of them, but you sure as hell can teach a majority of them to be responsible adults.

Do you follow up on your threats the same way you follow up on topics you start?

No, they are all good students, their parents limit social media, and I've got very nice 529 accounts for each one for college. The good news is that their parent don't need the 529's, but it makes me feel good that it's there for them.

So now parenting matters? I’m confused

Once you were out of high school at our house you went to college or got a job and moved out
All of my children are adults that act like adults now post college.
Even my step son would not have left the door open to let the pets out. Is your child not *slightly* scared of you? I think we found the issue...

Your son needs to join the military.

He is a manchild because you are treating him like a child.
A 19yr old living at home should be contributing to household expenses in some way. Whether that is rent towards the mortgage, paying some on utilities etc. He damn sure would be paying for his own phone and plan.

You should blame yourself

A 19 year old??? Ain’t no other punishment but him get his belongings and getting the hell out… for way lesser shite than what you claim he did… hell me paying the light or water bill one day probably enough for me to tell him he got to go

A 19 year old..Are you actually serious? 19???? Really?
This is how I treated my 10 year old...by 19 he was on his own. I would NEVER be held hostage by a 19 year old...or do this adolescent punishment crap with a full fledged adult. You need parenting coaching and quick.

I'm not laughing at you or think you're lying. That's just a funny arse line to read.
OP, beat your grown adult son's arse everyday until he learns, leaves, or dies. I can't fathom another option.

quote:I got that way when my doctor put me on Cymbalta for nerve pain in 2011. I quit giving a damn about much of anything. It completely wiped out whatever sex drive a 51 year-old man could have. It was like I was smoking pot, or in-between snorting coke, like I was on drugs. You don't care about much else when you're thinking about staying f'ed up.
WTF is wrong with him? I have no clue how to get him to truly give a flying shite about anything important.

The amount of shite you can train high school dropouts (not all, but some) to do, in the military is astounding. The military has truly come close to perfection on taking a crayon eating idiot and turning him into someone that maintains LAVs is awesome. We train these dipshits to run mortars, too. And they are fricking fantastic about it.
Funny how you didn't mention women, though. Any expectations there?

I had a classmate in Bahrain that had this happen. His dad figured out he was dealing hash, tricked him into flying back to KSA, where he was beheaded.
