You didn't really think you were going to come here and get straight forward advice??
Seriously though, Ive raised 4 boys and they have all turned out well.
First thing is they all matured at a different pace. A 19 year old male isnt actually all that mature. You remember right? Its the species.
Second, ultimatums work. They just have to know you mean it.

Biological fact. AND today is fundamentally different than when you were that age probably in the late 90's/early 2000's.
They are certainly capable of many things, but they've got to be made to achieve/accomplish those things.
He's got the same 'problem' that many other folks have in achieving maturity and independence - and that is a safety net that is too high.

Who pays for the electronics?

I think you're going to need to look in the mirror on this one, boss.

This sounds like you failed as a parent. You coddled him his whole like so now he acts like a coddled child and you act surprised?

You seriously couldn’t imagine your 19 year old son or daughter living with you for a while? Seriously??
Some of y’all are over the top.

If hes that much of an f up at home just imagine him trying to correctly sweep a floor or get the fries out of the oil on time. Youre gonna be paying for his lazy arse for the rest of your life. Either that or you need to prepare his mother for him to go live under a bridge.

Lot of people falling for this troll. Well done.

Have you not repeatedly instructed him to "Close the door!!!! We're not air conditioning the whole neighborhood!" I heard that at least 100 times growing up.

None of my kids have pulled anything like this. One out of the 3 is lazy but none of them are idiots like your 19 yo.

This is the correct answer. BTDT with one of my kids.

but the wife is a long way from being ok with that.
You're wife's the problem. At least when our situation hit the fan, my wife and I were on the same page.

Your son's on drugs. Again, speaking from experience.

F** Y** to all those who blame the parent. The influence of social media tells the asshats that they are entitled to whatever they want. Can you spend night and day counteracting the influence of the drivel that is driven into him all day.
Thank God my kids are in the 50's and late 40's, I would not want to deal with the crap today. I did teach them how to use the router controls to cut off the cell phone, video games and PC's. It can be a powerful tool.

dad, kick his legal adult arse to the curb and be done with it. And if momma don't like it, kick her to the curb too. No one is doing anyone any favors at this point.

sounds like he's mentally handicapped. Was it never diagnosed with anything?

I have a 23 year old daughter and a 19 son, and they are both joys. Sounds like you failed him as a father.
