re: Crawfish popularity in Texas

It’s popular, but still sort of in a novelty way. People will eat a half a pound of crawfish or so and enjoy it but then eat a whole actual meal along with it. It’s nothing like here where people will take ten lbs of crawfish to and face and actively remove all other boil ingredients from their plate.

This......people still look at me like I have a hand growing out of my head when I saunter up to the crawfish tent at HEB and ask for 15 pounds for me and the wife while they are buying 1, 2 or 3 pounds. Its become a running joke for us.

Houston has come a long way in the 20+ years I lived here in regards to crawfish but it still aint Louisiana. Hell, I still only count for 3 pounds per person when I boil for my Texas neighbors where I would use 5-7 as a rule in LA.

The upside is you can now get larger quality crawfish at a decent price but most Texans are still amateurs when it comes to eating and boiling.

And I'm sure this sounded less gay in your mind. Look around and ask your self......why do I know so many gay people?
One of the few Hollywood "stars" I've met in person. Met him on the street in NYC and talked for a few minutes. He was hanging out with Krysten Ritter at the time. Really decent guy.
Every time someone post about Chinese on this site i always bring up Bamboo House. Hands down the best Chinese buffet/Mongolian bbq in BTR at the time. Loved that place.

Mr. Mercedes

Looking around for something to watch and stumbled across Mr. Mercedes. Vaguely remember starting the book and not finishing but can’t remember why. Any thoughts on this show? Looks like 3 seasons. Any good?

I had a black 1/2 ton truck w black interior in South Texas. Liked it but needed something bigger. Traded in and bought a 3/4 ton black truck with light interior. Noticeable difference in temperature when I first got into the vehicle. With vented seats and A/C the truck cooled quick but when you first get in and the time it takes to cool - yes there is a difference. Admittedly both trucks had a black exterior so that factors as well.

ETA: Also, aesthetically I do prefer a light interior.
That segment on 610 between I-10 and 59 has been #1 in Texas and top 5 in the US since I lived here. Still # 5 now according to the USDoT at least since last year. 2026 not out yet.

I can attest as I'm sure the other Texas TDers can, its a nightmare. I avoid it like the plague.
The "infrastructure" comment isnt about electricity and operator facilities....... its about pipelines and getting the product to market.

The murder solve rate went down 62% or is that graphic misleading? Wouldn’t tout that

I guess if the math is consistent at least 14% of that could be attributed to the reduction in overall murders?? 48% would still suck.
Im going to answer your question w a question:

Why has the demographic in this forum changed to 55+ bitching about everything?

Another Sheridan show where he is just circling the bowl. Every episode I keep waiting for something to happen and it doesn’t. Sheridan is like a kid w a new toy. He plays with it till he’s bored then it like he just gives up and walks away.

Well, this made me think of Gaido's in Galveston.

Shepherd featured them recently on his Eat Like a Local show. Looked pretty good and loved the history of the place. Reminded me of the storied Louisiana restaurants. Need to get down there and try it.

Unrealistic in quite a few places and the editors didn’t try very hard but damn’t I still liked it. Even got a tear and a smile. And yes I saw all the little messages and parallels.
