Unfortunately, this is the best solution to minimize harm to everyone else. Too many people have been sacrificed at the altar of misplaced kindness.
How many times did, "Messiah" go berserk and harm everyone around him? How many times did his family brush off his weed habit or alcohol addiction as a reasonable coping mechanism?
There's really no telling, but what I do know is that this young man will not be a problem to anyone else.

Sometimes life sucks. If you go at somebody with a knife or gun whether it's evil or a chemical imbalance, they can't be allowed to hurt others. I think it just means he wasn’t thinking clearly and given that he’s schizophrenic, I’d say that’s probably it right there. The onset for men is usually right around that time. I think it said he was 27. I’d probably say his mom and grandma probably don’t know much about schizophrenia or how to care for him, much less have the resources to do so. But yeah he’s an animal.

I think some of yall are way too comfortable being dumb and racist. This guy technically wasn’t even a criminal. Given his condition and had he been tased or a different tactic or training used to subdue him and take him in, he wouldn’t have even become a criminal. Regardless, that’s not really where we are with responses to those situations, and a lot of times that’s what the people with mental illness want is someone to shoot them. That’s a pretty fricked up thing to put on someone.
Still to call them an animal and openly say it’s because they’re black, I mean let’s have some accountability.

Know who needs 'accountability' more than 'dumb racists'? Weak liberals who bend over backwards to always make excuses for violent criminals. Objectively, that has caused society much greater harm, in the form of actual innocent victims.
