"Didn't attempt de-escalation." What a bunch of bullshite. It was obviously after the point of de-escalation if the cops were called and schizophrenic episode or not at some point you have to you force and in this case it was the right call. Just from the sounds of the family I am gonna guess no father in the picture, very low IQ individuals, and have no regard for life and safety of others. The lawsuit is ridiculous and should be tossed.

His defense cited mental health issues (possible schizophrenia), and the court ordered evaluations while he was on house arrest with GPS monitoring in Tallahassee.

Sounds like a good candidate for the crisis response team that some cities have discussed sending to these events rather than armed police. I think he should try it and report back if he survives.
