Bottom line is the dude had schizophrenia. No criminal record. It seems the family was doing their best to deal with him, but at some point when a guy pulls a knife there's not much else than can be done then call Cops. And in America, Cops are trained to shoot first and ask questions later.
This kind of thing has happened in white families. Normal families who have a schizophrenic son/daughter/sibling. Back in the day you institutionalized them, but that is not an option nowadays.
Even among schizophrenics, this kind of thing is rare. But it does happen from time to time.

Its almost like we should have easier access for mental health care for people like this and do more to educate, but no, that would cost money and not make the rich richer, so why do it?

You being high and mighty about your psych degree and public health track is hilarious
I was asked for my education on the topic of schizophrenia and emergency response. Me answering a question and you having nothing to say but injecting a false narrative that I’m high and mighty for what? Answering the question or you’re insecure I have degrees? Coming from a person who lists his interests as pumping iron and dogs…
frick off, loser.

Do you think it’s because of the lack of oversight and that these places often committed horrible acts on their patients? I’m a little too young to remember that era. But seems like the answer, and to have some educational institutions attached for hands on and observational learning/studies.
There’s a guy with schizophrenia who played football for Maryland I think and they found him living on the street in NYC in bad way. They ended up literally running into him as he was jogging and apparently he started exercising and running intensively for long periods and that was staving off his hallucinations. I’ll try and find the video clip of his interview. I think they show him at both times.
He’s actually from Rutgers. Fasts for 23 hours. I could only find the after clip.

When a cop points a loaded weapon at you as you’re charging him with a knife, and tells you to stop…YOU STOP.
Case closed.
Bottom line: those cops shouldn’t be on the hook for $10 mill because they feared for their life/safety from a lunatic and acted accordingly.

Why not just really late term abort them like liberals do with other unwanted humans?

How dumb are you? Most males don’t develop schizophrenia until their 20s.
Be careful what you wish for. I sense mild retardation in your posts. You may be a good candidate for an early exit.
