And with Caleb, there is a chance that there is some intentional editing going on here. With that said, as soon as he said "I'm guessing it's about $8k", the guy on the show that appears to know her well also gave a nod implying Caleb's guess was correct.

What's your point? A cook in the USMC who might never see war still still does 13 weeks of bootcamp and 5 weeks of MCT (Marine Combat Training - AKA, shortened/simplified Infantry school). That cook still trains with a rifle, grenades, a bayonet, pugil sticks, and martial arts. That cook still goes to the gas chamber, swim qualification. That cook can possibly still do time on ship. That cook still does land navigation courses, rope rappelling, and long arse marches. That cook still endured all the mental and physical obstacles to earn the title of Marine.
If that cook has been injured enough after 4 years (or more) of service, then God bless him or her.

One good way to limit future military disability, abused or rightful, is to stop making political decisions that put so many service members in harm's way.

Just from people I know, I would assume that a huge percentage of the disability claims -- exaggerated or rightful -- quite specifically come from service in relation to wars in Iraq, Afganistan and soon Iran.
The necessity of the sheer amount of service people put in harm's way in those conflicts that results in disability claims is pretty questionable.

Nothing will ever be done because the first step in problem solving is to correctly identify the problem and in no world can anyone criticize our veterans. They are "heroes," even if they were bulk fuel and only joined for the college benefits.

I personally know many vets, none have sniffed combat, nor done rigorous PT, you'd be shocked how many are getting 70% disability (near $3000/mo). It's a huge scam, if someone is truly injured in combat, we should do everything possible to take care of him/her. That's not the case for most.
You'd be surprised to learn how many women claim MST with absolutely no documentation and get approved for VA disability.
The next time you see 100% VA disabled tag pay attention to the driver here she is like you to be 30s or 40s and driving a nice vehicle.
When I was growing up folks who got shot up in World War II, Korea or Vietnam were mainly the ones getting VA disability, that has completely flipped now.
You'd be surprised to learn how many women claim MST with absolutely no documentation and get approved for VA disability.
