Sign on bonus is a trap. Get taxed to the high heavens, see maybe half of it after taxes and then trapped for 2 years. Ask me how I know

Oh, so you worked full time year-round? I was thinking you meant you just mainly worked certain weeks for strikes.
No they can be very rare. I worked 2 in the beginning of the year and 1 at the end of the year. There were none during the summer months. You can't live off of them but they are a good side hustle. It was an extra $32k after taxes for me last year for 15 days of work. I just got my shift covered when they popped up

for how many hours of work?
Depends, the first half of the year I averaged 40 hours per week. The second half of the year I averaged 60+ hours (I was paying off my student loans and car). My 3 weeks I worked strikes were all quoted for 60 hours (5 12s back to back) but we always ended up with over 80 hours

But does that include the per diem and housing costs.
I am pretty sure a hotel stay may eat away at that 11K pretty quickly.
Strike contacts are different than travel nurse contracts. You are provided flights, hotels, transportation, daily meal stipends etc. Nothing is out of pocket. That comes at a cost of having no clue what hospital you will be working at, your patient load, or what you are walking into. I've worked at nice places and I've worked at complete dumps where staff will try to screw you over when there on strike contracts.
