in a taxable brokerage account, Ordinary dividends get taxed at ordinary rates. Qualified get taxed at capital gains rates.

Aren't these dividends qualified and tax efficient for yeildmax?

If that is the case then why not invest in the underlying security instead of capping your upside for the payout?

Truthfully because based on calculations if it remains even remotely close to the same returns/ distributions then I could almost have my annual income in dividends in 10 years with no additional investments
Los Angeles for work, 10 days
I started adding some into my brokerage account and have about $4,000 worth of MSTY. It's paying me around $250 in dividends MONTHLY that are being reinvested. With DRIP turned on over the last year I'm up way over the S&P with this ETF. It's a short term play and I'm considering turning DRIP off and diverting the dividends to something safer each month until I am able to return my initial investment (probably around 2 years time to totally cover my initial investment based on my calculations). I know it gets a lot of hate but seeing those fat dividends each month in my account im a believer.

ETA: this is all in a Roth. A small percentage of my investment. I am young and have time to have riskier investments
I've never been and wanted to give it a try. I don't need a 5 star resort but don't want a dump somewhere in the middle, TIA

Isn't the average carnival customer completely price focused? Where are they going to get a cheaper cruise?

MSC cruises is heavily targeting the American market. Expanding into the Galveston port later this year and already in Florida and west coast. For reference a Interior room on carnival is priced the same as a balcony room on MSC with the drink package and wifi for the same week in 2026 when I looked. They also honor loyalty status match so they are pushing to take that market
Robinhood for the match. Fidelity if you're a boomer who "doesn't trust Robinhood"
This is a good Forbes article on the changes they made to the loyalty program this week. This move is going to frustrate a lot of long time loyal cruisers who will be looking for other cruise lines to match their loyalty status. You used to earn loyalty status by number of cruise days spent at sea but now it is changing to total dollar amount spent.

Carnival Cruise Line, part of the Carnival Corporation family of cruise brands, is conducting a huge, real-time experiment in customer loyalty. And, it's not going to be pretty.

The cruise line announced this week that it’s scrapping its 13-year-old loyalty program in favor of a spend-based system that will require customers to shell out tens of thousands of dollars to maintain their elite status. Diamond members, the highest level in the program, will retain their status for six years. Then, the math becomes daunting: spend $33,334 every two years or lose your perks.

Carnival loyalists knew a change was coming. Speculation ranged from a modest increase in nights required to reach each level to status matching with Carnival brands like Princess and Cunard. Nobody expected such a dramatic set of changes.

I bought $5000 in my Roth and $2000 in my individual account and turned on DRIP and letting it ride.
That was a robbery, wrong winner for sure
I just spent 2 of the last 4 weeks in LA for work. I stayed near LAX and spent most of my time in Santa Monica/long Beach. I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I never had to go downtown so I can't comment on that part but I definitely had a different experience than you. I think it all depends where you stay
