The school was only about 30 minutes from Lincoln so I'm not buying the rural dating pool excuse, especially if the grooming started when she was 17.
Edit: and the dude lived in Lincoln in a freaking college town. This shite happened a few years ago at a local school in Lee County, AL, and the teacher had all the legal college aged girls he could've wanted right there in Auburn.

What in the Quagmire is this? The girl was 18 and out of school.
And the teacher is not a high school teacher.
This seems wrong.

There was a case at South Beauregard where the student was of age and the soccer coach, who was much older, preyed upon her. In that case, he was charged and convicted since she was still a student.
17 is legal age in Louisiana. And the teacher relationship makes it illegal but merely a misdemeanor.

By everything accept this one law, ehich Nebraska is alone in having.
I’m not saying the guy should keep his job and I’m not arguing whether or not he broke the law. He clearly did. But I don’t agree with the law.
Like I said if the district wants to fire him and state take away his license I’m 100% on board with that. I don’t think this should be a situation that constitutes jail time though and it seems like most states agree

But there is still physical evidence in text messages that can still be used against him. Not sure if having her just refuse to testify is enough to create doubt in a jury of him breaking the spirit of the law.
I can recall a female teacher although older going through a similar situation in Lafourche parish about 15 years ago, for going after a 17 or 18 year old in the sack, back then in Louisiana it was a misdemeanor and may still be that.
She lost her teaching certificate for a time and was later able to get the misdemeanor expunged as a first time offender and reapply to get her teaching certification back. Not sure if she is back in a classroom at a different school district. Ironically her hubby was a teacher too at the same school when the infidelity occurred and still teaches at the same school. I believe they are still married and have children now.

Glad to see police focusing their efforts on real criminals

What? That's not how it works.

Grandparents were 24 and 18 when they got married. 60 years.

I agree with that, and it probably won’t unless they have automatic sentencing.

RS 14:81.4
Prohibited sexual conduct between educator and student
A. Prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student is committed when any of the following occur:
(1) An educator has sexual intercourse with a person who is seventeen years of age or older, but less than twenty-one years of age, where there is an age difference of greater than four years between the two persons, when the victim is not the spouse of the offender and is a student at the school where the educator is assigned, employed, or working at the time of the offense.
So...let's say there is a 20 year old senior(started school late, held back one year) attending a K-12 private school. He has sex with a 25 year old Pre-K teacher there. That means she's going to jail, right?

ut a few things about the below seem incorrect.
Such as what? It provides a much clearer timeline than the People article.
He was busy grooming her when she was 17.
If that was your daughter, would you have a problem with her teacher sending her sexually explicit texts?

My grandpa was 19 and my grandma was 15 when they got married and had my dad a year later. Together 50+ years. Times have sure changed. That would be outlawed today.

Meanwhile, female teachers can screw 11 year old boys, serve a month in local jail, and get a job in the next state
