It's pretty much the same drive from Baton Rouge to Jalisco as it is Jalisco to Cancun.

Just to give you a reference

If I was going to Cancun my MIL would basically think we were getting our heads cut off and put in the road. Because she saw that on TV 10 years ago

It's a 29 hour drive from Jalisco to Cancun. I think you will be alright
