So this guy had two jobs?

Are there still schools with 6th and 12th grades in the same school?

Many coaches wear two+ hats while teaching in high school b/c they get paid more.
My geometry teacher was also the soccer coach. My Biology teacher was also my civics teacher

It's to prevent grooming so a legal savvy teacher doesn't lay the foundation for a sexual relationship and cash in the day after graduation. Is a three month buffer arbitrary? Yeah, I guess so but you have to draw a line somewhere in that muddy sand and I guess they figured three months was a proper freeze out to hinder the typical human libido.

But in this case the guy wasn't even her teacher - he was a wrestling coach at the high school but a 6th grade teacher at a different school, so it's not like he had some type of custodial relationship with her unless there's something more in the article I didn't bother to read.

But I do sorta feel bad for young single dudes in rural communities. The decent girls either marry up fast or split for college/big city. When you're left with a dry dating pool, the 18-20 girls become more enticing out of desperation. I'm not saying it's right just that circumstances can be different.

Like what exactly?
Two legal adults consenting?

The time period is probably being used as prima facie evidence that the actual grooming or relationship really began while she was still a student and covered up by both until she graduated, but the penalty for it if the time frame is your only proof should be losing job, losing teaching certificate, and maybe a small nominal fine and/or probation period.

The timing of the texting is suspect, and it doesn’t state if before or after her graduation event took place. I can see at that point they could have gotten less concerned about hiding communications, but again without proof of grooming or relationship starting while a student the extreme range of a penalty is overly harsh and shouldn’t even be in play. It actually can induce guilty pleas for a guarantee of a lower penalty.

Assuming this all really had its beginnings after graduation the girl must be way out of this guy’s league that he could not wait another 3 weeks to make things official and/or have sex. It would also suck in this case if she was the one pressing for sex or threatening to look elsewhere for sex if he kept trying to wait it out. Even worse if she later felt jilted and was the one who submitted the anonymous tip after pushing him for more than just the tip.

Unlike other states however, a teacher is still in violation in the state of Nebraska if they engage in intimate relations with a student in the 90 days after they leave or graduate from the school system.

I believe its 2 years in Louisiana after graduation.

There's a charter school here that has a lower school (k-5) and upper school (6-12).

There is a double standard in this between male and female teachers and they're probably should be but this is dumb as hell.

I went to a small private school that's K-12 and a lot of if not most GISA schools are like that

what if she sues the state for infringing on her rights as an adult? She was graduated and 18. Why can the state set an arbitrary 90 day limit on her and dictate to her who she can and cannot sleep with as long as that person is an adult also?

18 and consenting and getting 20 years is ridiculous when we see a post a day about female teachers with no punishment.

So he didn't teach nor coach her but because he happened to be employed by the school she went to (maybe? are 6th graders at this high school?) he is now charged?

This seems bat shite insane.

Dude gets some blame though, no way he didn't know the law, just wait the 90 days.

I mean she’s a fricking legal adult for fricks sake. This shite is dumb and as long as that relationship didn’t become intimate while she was under 18 and at school does it really fricking matter??

It’s not a defense to not know the law, but the law is fricking stupid and arbitrary. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t know
