She was out of school and of age
But not out of school for 90 days making her not of age for any employee of the school she graduated from. May have been legal for you but it was not legal for the coach!
I get it but this scenario is exactly why the law was written this way. Would you really be ok with this if it was your daughter?

It's a stupid fricking law.

No, but I wouldn't call the cops because it's not illegal. I just wouldn't want my 18 year old dating a 26 year old guy.
But it's not like he's 46.

100% this should be a fireable offense and grounds for him to not be able to teach anymore. That doesn’t mean there should be legal ramifications

Us boomers know students, neighbors, and teachers that have had affairs, and some even got married. I know one of my friends is married to this day with great-grandchildren.
Only difference was that we didn’t have an electronic megaphone to snigger over them and gossip out loud and stir shite up with parents.

Well that's obviously your opinion snd apparently the Nebraska Legislative Branch, Executive Branch, and Judicial branches of government disagrees with your opinion because it is illegal there and he is being punished to fullest extent of the law.
My opinion is the law should be two years to remove any doubt of grooming.
Personally, I find it extremely creepy that a 26 year old would be interested in an 18 year old. Obviously, it doesn't make it illegal unless of course it's a teacher and less than 90 days since graduation.

Like what exactly? Two legal adults consenting?
I wouldn’t be thrilled with my daughter getting lit up by teachers on graduation night like where this started.
So I understand how the conversation started with putting at least a modest buffer if you are going to have not just agree but the grooming law in place.
I have no clue what that buffer should be. The minute they walk? Last day of class?
I have to imagine his sentence would be much more lenient bumping into her at a bar on day 89 vs texting her graduation night…..but you never know in some places

Nebraska is an outlier and the only state that feels that way. Every other state handles this with educational policy (firing) not legally.
Again my argument isn’t that he didn’t break the law. He did. It’s just a dumb law in my opinion. If your opinion is different thats fine.
I’m not saying there shouldn’t be some form of consequence. He definitely shouldn’t be teaching. That’s more than enough punishment in this case, in my opinion.

It's definitely weird but there are probably some constitutional issues with this.
Age of consent in Nebraska is 16. The guy should be fired from his job, sure. But he shouldn’t have been charged to begin with. Politics and feminism are the reason they’re charging him guaranteed.

So this guy had two jobs? Are there still schools with 6th and 12th grades in the same school?
It’s not uncommon for elementary or middle school teachers to be high school coaches in the same district, as they are employed by the district, not the school.
Chalmette high has elementary PE teachers who coach high school football, district office employees who coach other sports / moderate school activities, etc

So...let's say there is a 20 year old senior(started school late, held back one year) attending a K-12 private school. He has sex with a 25 year old Pre-K teacher there. That means she's going to jail, right?
It’s just a misdemeanor
