Praying for your son. It’s a shame this country doesn’t take care of its vets. The gov ask them to do incredibly horrific things. Then they get thrown back in the meat grinder of life without much help.

You can also text 838255 or open a live, online chat on the Veterans Crisis Line. website. Call the 24/7 Veteran Combat Call Center 1-877-WAR-VETS (1-877-927-8387) to talk to another combat Veteran, or visit the Vet Center homepage to ask about local support groups.

He was deployed for a year at the Syria/Iraq/Jordan border as a LAARNG member. I haven't probed much, but I do know that kids firing at him bothered him greatly and he had to fire back. He had an episode this morning where his wife heard him crying out to God and yelling get down they're firing at us. Any if y'all have experience in how I van help? i've given him the Camp Hope hotline number. VA says he doesnt Have PTSD, soI'm pissed and confused.

My wife is a counselor at the VA.

First of all, it sounds like there is no doubt he has PTSD.

Secondly, the VA will bend over backwards to prevent giving a diagnosis that will be considered a service connected disability.

Third, even if he doesn’t get the official diagnosis, most of the counselors will still treat him and his mental health issues in the same way as if he has the diagnosis.

Fourth, it might be time to get him into see a non-VA counselor.

Fifth, treatments for PTSD by a counselor who knows what they’re doing is very effective.

I encourage you to look into stellate ganglion block (SGB) for PTSD. It’s a promising treatment option. The Acadiana Veterans Alliance in Lafayette can help with funding if needed.

Good luck to you and your son.

Find a good therapist, and talk to your son everyday about how he's feeling, no matter how hard it might be for him. Getting his feelings out is therapeutic and will reduce the risk that he thinks of suicide.

One of the guys in my unit that was in Baghdad w/me had undiagnosed PTSD. Ended up killing himself a week before XMas in 2017, leaving behind a gf and 2 kids. None of us knew. He always had a happy go-lucky disposition but that obviously was a mask to what was really going on.

So please make sure that your son gets help and that it doesn't make him weak for seeking it out.

I will say a prayer for him

He will have to file a claim with the VA and have to undergo a C&P exam, then the VA will recognized it and provide treatment under their care.

Godspeed to your son. If he doesn't have a dog, that may help. Rogan has several podcasts where PTSD treatments are discussed, you may be able to glean something from those.

Have his testosterone checked. If he suffered any blast that could affect his pituitary gland and testosterone.

Does he himself feel like he has PTSD? Can he articulate that himself?

Short term he should find a psychiatrist that will prescribe Zoloft. He likely has anxiety and depression that would lend itself to a diagnosis but Zoloft is indicated for PTSD.

Longer term he should look for MDMA therapy, edmr therapy & CBT group therapy for PTSD.

How's he coping with it now? If he's not, anything like a alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous, sex/porn anonymous, etc might be the fastest solution since he could go to any meetings right away.

But if he doesn't feel like he needs it, that is another story.

Find someone doing ketamine therapy. Find other veterans groups. People that he feels understand his situation. Doing anything you can think of and keep doing it.

No he didn't. He turned a thread about a legitimate mental problem into a thread about his own chosen mental psychosis.

and the endless list of losers we subsidize while the honorable boys and girls who sign a contract at 17 to defend the incredibly worthless populace in this country are made to feel like second class citizens

Another reason we need a national split. We spend too much money subsidizing losers and blaming the winners..

we break men on the battlefield so we owe them solutions.

From all I’ve heard, don’t wait on the VA to do something. I’d seek competent private help immediately and get him into whatever treatment he needs. I’ve said a prayer for him and your family. God bless.

This sounds dumb but, the gym. He needs to start going religiously. That and he needs a good group of vets around him.

There’s a guy from Bossier City who could be a good start for at least a referral. Clint Davis. I’ve followed him a bit on podcasts and such and I like his approach. Praying for some comfort and peace.
