I hear the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale as well.
Google just beat the DOJ. Outsourcing isn't going anywhere.

re: Is it legal to ask if a prospective employee has ever participated in a political protest?
Posted by mahdragonz on 7/17/25 at 11:09 am to bigDgator
Imagine a bunch of people not hired for attending tea party rallies back in the day or any of the protests now, like those who went to the January 6th rally.
Although, any employee who is truthful (admitting to going to any type of protest) shouldn't be hired for being dumb.
Why would you tell your employer anything about your private life?

So you understand race is essentially meaningless and economic status is.
A white investment banker in Manhattan will have more in common with a black investment banker in Manhattan than a white welder in Louisiana.
Don't you think most of the white wealth holders feel any responsibility towards the white working class? It amazes me that so many poor people will so dutifully support the bizarre actions of the wealthy, as if the loyalty goes both ways.

re: Nastiest divorce situations you've seen.

The best advice my wife and I followed was to do a post nup and we've updated it through the years. We are still on the same page that there is the relationship (how we feel about each other) and the marriage (the fiscal integration of our lives) and the two are separate.
But the worst divorce I saw was not quite a friend but a solid colleague who started doing a lot of extra at work, trying to suddenly advance but didn't have the skills or personality to do it (think an IT guy who was great technically but suddenly wanted to be head of external sales but could barely get through a client meeting). I guess his wife was racking up debt, maybe on pills, but he kept throwing money away. I think it took like 4 or 5 years to get the actual divorce, he gained like 100 pounds and she looked methy.
They both are in sketchy jobs and sketchy places to live. I think he married a girl (the one he divorced) who he always thought was out of his league - his wife was dull and dim - and just tried to do whatever she wanted.
He would not go for therapy to help himself even when people offered to help him. He lost a LOT of money.

That ex wife you forgot to get the marriage annulled, thinking a divorce was enough?
Surprise surprise! You are married for eternity!

I would think most of the people on this board don't know what a family office is, why it would exist, or the general risks associated with it.
If you have to work a job to pay your bills you are working class. You are a laborer.
It's incredible how many people I've met who disagree.

re: Why do we treat single moms as heroes?
Posted by mahdragonz on 1/12/25 at 12:44 pm to AndyJ
Lots of weak men don't want to pay for their children.
I don't see single moms celebrated anywhere. They are usually too busy raising their kids.
Why don't you share an example of this problem with evidence?

re: Is marriage worth it?

Again I say this:
There is the relationship and there is the marriage.
The first is a commitment and the other is a legal contract. Once you understand that, then you decide how the two relate to each other.
Marrying my wife was the best thing ever, she's extraordinary. We also were clear eyed about finances with legal documentation pre and post marriage that protects our interests.
The relationship is stronger because we decided to have a strong marriage.

If people realize that they should act as though they the company has no loyalty to them and employees have no loyalty to a company, work life would be far better.
I've seen so many friends turn their lives upside down under the idea of doing what's best for the company and not doing what's best for themselves. And they often pay the price for it.

Mayas on magazine. Great at the holidays with decorations and a hidden gem.
Herbsaint I think gets overlooked a lot but I think it's more subtle and adventurous than people give it credit for.
I took colleagues to coterie and it had great energy from service. The food was standard but the feel of it was something that impressed me.

It's an amazing state with an amazing quality of life.
Something terrible: a lot of sad sack people think that's a terrible thing, especially those who have only lived in Louisiana.
If you stay in Louisiana, you'll be one of them. Is that positive?

The 50s were not great.
Post war austerity.
The 70s tv show nostalgia of the 50s made it seem nice. It was a throwback to help deal with the utter failure of Vietnam.
