The underlings are supposed to meet, hash out a rough deal and then have the principals nail it down.

If the United States ends support of Ukraine, yes they will lose and quickly. For all of Europe’s tough talk lately every one of their country’s weasel leaders knows it too but they won’t say it. The Ukrainians have said it though. This has gone on too long and the lines are pretty much frozen in place with advances measured in meters, not miles. It’s turned into WWI trench warfare but with drones. Russia isn’t winning this war on the battlefield as long as Ukraine is pumping out a million FPV drones a year. They can just send as many drones as are needed to take out as many Russian armored vehicles that they send in assaults and then the drone hunters go hunting for individual troops. The Russians have an almost unlimited amount of people to send at Ukraine’s lines though so eventually they have to fall back which keys Russia move up little by little. Everything Russia has taken control of is a wasteland anyway that they would be responsible for rebuilding while Ukraine could put those resources towards reviving its economy and building their military with more domestically built weapons from bullets to tanks. I think Ukraine would be wise to rebuild their Air Force by purchasing a western platform like the Gripen or F-16. With Sweden producing the new Gripen-E variant it will be looking to divest around 50 of their current fleet. That would be a win-win for both Ukraine and Sweden alike if you ask me. Sweden would get money for their old Gripens they were going to retire and Ukraine would get the perfect fighter for their needs in the present and future and they could probably get them for a good deal. The maintenance costs on the Gripen are far below most fighters including the F-16 and even though Sweden was planning to take them from active service, they still have many flight hours left in their airframes. If Ukraine gets 70 of the 90ish promised F-16s and purchases 50 Gripens it would then have 120 western fighters or about 7 squadrons on top of the several soviet aircraft still flying that would cover Ukraine’s skies for at least the next 10 years and deter Russia from ever trying to attack again. Then after Ukraine has had a few years to rebuild its country and economy, Ukraine could possibly be ready to make the jump to 5th gen fighters and choose the platform they prefer. The war has got to end first though.
