Do not give that university a single thing of value.

He loved LSU, and I'm sure he'd be proud to be part of the museum.

This is the only part that really matters. Be sure to loan and not donate though, get documentation.

What would the OT do?

I, personally, would donate or put them on permanent loan to a local Veteran's museum. They would appreciate it more and would still allow people to learn about your family member. Include with it an encouragement for people to donate and support the museum's efforts to preserve that history.

Look at what LSU did to General Middleton, and now won't return his artifacts to his family. No way in hell I'd donate anything.

After Middleton, I wouldn't do it. I'd almost wait for a WW2 Museum type museum about this Era and donate there.

sure what yall are talking about

They removed his name from the library because of a letter he wrote 50 years ago regarding integration. They branded him as a racist. When his family asked for his memorabilia back, LSU refused.

Sounds like you know what to do.

Share memories of your relative often and let their honor and sacrifice live on through that.

Do this, that way the family can recall it anytime they choose.

I think I am the only one here who read the lawsuit the Middleton family filed against LSU. They didn't DONATE his stuff to LSU. They LOANED it just like yall are telling OP to do. When LSU started maligning Middleton they asked for the stuff back and LSU said "no". LSU even initially admitted in writing the items were on loan but then came back and said it is now theirs. That was what pissed me off more than anything.

I also have direct knowledge of someone who donated a large collection of items with the stipulation they be kept by the university. LSU then sold the items for six figures to a corporate customer.

I would like to know more about this.

Assuming your relative is a white male, donating or loaning any historical artifacts to LSU is just too risky.
Do you want his good name dragged through the mud by these insane historical revisionists?

I would consider a loan, but more than likely I'd tell them hell no and I'd explain exactly why.

Not a chance in hell I'd donate a thing.

A different LSU so many of us loved.

It should show you how far our Alma Mater has fallen when the overwhelming attitude on an LSU site is “frick LSU”.

If you’d have told me 10 years ago i’d be saying that I would have called you a liar

Lend it to them, don’t donate. Make it so you can take it back whenever you see fit

I wouldn’t.

Some SJW will try to find dirt on your relative and the entire family in order to have the items banned from view. Even if your family is “clean” according to SJW standards, you still don’t want that type of attention
