It should show you how far our Alma Mater has fallen when the overwhelming attitude on an LSU site is “frick LSU”.

It truly is sad... LSU chose to pander to the people who hate America, Athletics & God just for internet points.
Turned their back on the adults who actually write checks.
We'll see how that plays out in the long run.

I also have direct knowledge of someone who donated a large collection of items with the stipulation they be kept by the university. LSU then sold the items for six figures to a corporate customer.

Yeah, we're gonna need some details

Tell lsu to go to hell. Your relative would be repulsed at what it has become as well.

Nope.

While LSU still has people on staff that are SJW, no way. And included in that group are a few well-heeled alums propping up the Ole War Skule and wanted the General's items.

No thanks.

Does the USS Kidd have a 9/11 exhibit? Maybe loan to them for display. I wouldn't donate the items though.

I wouldn’t donate it to this “woke” university.

Check out all the trophy animals at the Bass Pro in DS. Where do you think they came from? Hint. Bass Pro bought that whole collection from LSU. They were supposed to be on display. Descendants of the guy who donated them were actually happy because it voided the Chair they funded and they cut their donations to LSU. They found out when one of the guys kids was in BP and saw a trophy he remembered from his childhood.

ETA. It may have been Cabelas. I can't remember. I knew some of the people involved but it happened back when those stores were built several years ago. Thinking now it was Cabelas.

Don't give it to LSU. Write them a letter telling them why. Also, call local tv networks and tell them your story. Hopefully, they will pass on your message to the public via TV broadcast.

Lastly, find a family member, grandchild or son or daughter to pass it on to so it will stay within the family. I would be sure a family member would rather have the items than LSU.

Didn't know about the Troy Middleton thing. I would loudly and publicly demand an apology to the Middleton family before even considering it.

By this point there are 4 pages of other people saying similar sentiments, but if you think that it would honor his legacy, send the some bullet points of the conditions of which you would loan it to the University. Include that you can recall it at any point, that they are responsible if it is damaged or stolen, etc. Have them bear the expense of drafting the loan agreement and have your attorney review it.

If you decide to donate, put it in writing that the item is on loan only and can be recalled by the family at any time. Make it iron clad.

If you decide not to donate, make it absolutely clear as to why. Cite specific things, and make sure the head of the alumni association gets a copy, too.

You guys are way more trusting than I would be that lsu would act in good faith.

I don’t believe LSU can be trusted with anything long term. I would make damn sure I get them back if they are no longer needed.

I'm rather curious about this as I was in the Pentagon as well...one of the Army ROTC 1976 commissioning class (a year behind me) was one of the real heroes that day...

would you mind sending me a pm with his identity please?

wondering if I knew him...

Consider donating them to the USS Kidd museum instead. LSU will end up destroying your items as a form of woke protests.

Definitely do what you want and not what you feel your deceased relative would want.
