Ate at a regular sit-down Mexican place yesterday for $4.50 (before tax and tip). I was pretty proud of myself but the waiter wasn't very enthused. My meal was admittedly spartan, though.

The dollar has actually been really strong lately.

One euro is 1.04 dollars. That’s as good as I can ever remember.

Some people like to go out and be social every so often, Roger. Not everyone is a grumpy misanthrope like you.

I thank you for your support

Catfish prices are highest they’ve ever been right now. Over 1.40/lb on the pond bank which translates to 6-7 dollars a lb wholesale from the processor. Input costs are too damn high, feed and fuel is outrageous. Combined with a massive industry fish shortage.

shite sucks right now. I hate it. I like good prices but I’m worried it will allow shitty imports to take more market share. Things need to straighten out soon and get back to normal

I bet the labor rates are killing the restaurants more than anything

No. Lack of workers is the bigger problem.

Saltgrass the other day- 2 iced teas and one soda. One rib plate, a soup and salad, and a chicken sandwich was around $70-80 after tip.

That’s a ripoff. I can get this exact meal at a local soul food diner for way less

Rib plate- 12 dollars includes 2 sides and drink (not listed on regular menu, it’s a lunch plate special they do once a week)

$80 for three people? That is a deal. I can’t look at a restaurant without dropping $100 for the two of us. Although we do spend $50 in drinks every time. I feel like I win the lottery if I can get out of there with a $100 bill including the tip.

The costs associated with running a Saltgrass isn't what a soul food diner's is. Very much apples and oranges

I guess it's where you are, but my wife and I went out yesterday for dinner (2 beers, 2 margaritas, jalapeno popper app, tuna for her, cajun pasta for me) - $71 before tip and Friday we ate sushi for $78 before tip (two drinks each, app, and 18 pieces of sushi). Some places do seem high, but you need to find the ones that are not!

My meal was admittedly spartan, though.
“The Spartans, noted among ancient writers for their austerity, prepared a black broth of blood and boiled pig's leg, seasoned with vinegar, which they combined with servings of barley, fruit, raw greens, wine and, at larger dinners, sausages or roasted meat. Spartan boys were sparingly issued barley cakes.”

The portion sizes must be TINY for them to charge that little!

I love soul food diners but my hotel in the chain restaurant mecca was located next to saltgrass. It was late and we had been traveling all day. I was just pointing out we didn't get seafood for our $80/3 people.
