LSU freshman wide receiver Corey Barber Jr. took advantage of an expanded opportunity Saturday night against McNeese, and his performance reminded Lane Kiffin of one of his former players at Ole Miss.

Barber caught seven passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns in LSU's 63-14 win, recording his first two touchdown receptions of his college career.

When Kiffin was asked Sunday about some of the young players who stepped up against McNeese and whether their performances could lead to more playing time, he compared Barber to former Ole Miss receiver Cayden Lee.

“Out of bad things, sometimes good things come. Winnie (Watkins) had two drops, which moved Corey up to get more chances, and Corey had a great game,” Kiffin said on Sunday's Zoom call.

“Really reminds us of Cayden Lee when Cayden Lee came to us and really just made a lot of plays and did everything right type of guy. And so that was great to see, and those are the ones that come to mind.”

Lee, who transferred from Ole Miss to Missouri, has 35 receptions for 522 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Barber, a four-star prospect from Pinson, Alabama, was originally committed to Kiffin and Ole Miss before flipping his commitment to LSU after Kiffin took the Tigers' head coaching job.

The freshman has appeared in four games this season, with Saturday's performance marking his breakout game for the Tigers.
