An engine running on a smartphone isn't as strong as an engine on a PC, it can't get to enough depth. I think Magnus could beat a smartphone powered engine.
I highly doubt if there was cheating that it was anything electronic, it's far more likely that it was leaked what Magnus' prep was. If you can narrow down your study to the opening that Magnus is planning then it eases your prep tremendously. Hans being so prepared for a novelty line that he said he studied, despite Magnus never playing it before and Hans saying he studied one of Magnus' games and referencing a specific game where it didn't apply lends some credence to that theory.
As much as anal beads would be funny that was just an Elon Musk troll post that everyone ran with.

They do a basic wanding at bigger tournaments, they really went at Hans before his next match much more than normal.

Could he have won without cheating, absolutely. Could he have not explained why he did what he did at the critical point in the match, extremely unlikely.

And what exactly would that have to do with playing a game of chess under the scrutiny of judges, a live audience, cameras broadcasting it to chess geeks around the world, the press in attendance, playing under library like silent conditions, etc.
It's just 2 people on opposite sides of a table moving little game pieces around a checkered board. No nukes, no spy planes, no deadly nerve gases, threats of strikes and counterstrikes......Just a parlor game, but one played at an extremely professional level.

You're actually trying to compare a couple of competitions that require physical prowess of speed, strength and endurance against a board game played by 2 people most consider nerds.
Roids or other performance enhancing drugs won't help you in chess. It is a cerebral game who's actions are dictated by what's between the ears of the competitors and how well they have studied their opponents probability of moves and gambits.
