Where is SFP on this one?

How did someone discover this
They didn’t. Someone on the internet basically said that is one possible way to cheat, so they ran with it to make people read the story.

The issue is that he made multiple, never-done-before moves that the engines had as the best move possible for black at the time. And then he couldn’t really explain himself in the interview right after the match.

Nobody has conceived of a viable mechanism for how Hans could have cheated in the tournament.
So, your saying this whole thing is a bit of a stretch?

Cheating in chess huh? This is what we have come to. End up losing so the go to is to claim cheating
Need to form a J6 - type commission.
Start seizing cellphones at Hardee’s drive throughs.
Ban chess commentators from social media.
This is something we really need to get a grip on immediately. If not, thousands of school aged kids will start cheating at Go Fish or Rock Paper Scissors.

I only take allegations of cheating in poker seriously

“We have invited Neimann to provide an explanation and response with the hope of finding a resolution where Neimann can again participate on Chess.com.”
From what I gather, he beat a dude as a huge underdog. The dude said the only way he could lose is if the other guy cheated, so now the other guy is banned from chess.com and being demanded an explanation...for what?
But I'm here for the hilarity around the vibrating anal beads.

quote:Yea, I'm trying to figure out what I missed from the article that had him banned from the Global Championship and demanding he provide an explanation for...beating an opponent.
I read the whole article. Basically low ranked guy beats high ranked guy and some internet trolls came up with a theory that he used vibrating anal toys to cheat… it’s pretty gross that they even ran a story and mentioned those allegations with literally zero evidence that he cheated (especially that he had something in his butt to do it).

This would be like a bottom 25, solid team at home defeating a #1. Certainly a big deal, but not unheard of
Either way, even if it was soooooo absolutely unbelievable that he could pull off this upset, if simply beating this grandmaster dude gets you banned, then why would opponents of that caliber even be allowed to play dudes that good?

Chess isn't like baseball. You cant really get lucky.

This story is creating intense vibrations throughout the chess world.

Chess isn't like baseball. You cant really get lucky.
Otherwise, what's the point? If the lesser dudes wins, he quite literally gets banned for...winning?
Posted on 9/15/22 at 11:29 am to shel311
Well I think the main stink is that the winner really didn't seem to understand how he won, and that's impossible at that level.

How does the person on the computer know what moves the opponent is making? Are these events streamed live?
Yes. Chess tournaments always have a big board on the wall so spectators can follow the game live. This has happened for many decades.
So all you have to do is sit in the crowd, plug the moves into your smartphone, and signal the smartphone's recommended move to the player.
Since computers are so much better than humans nowadays, this has become a real problem.

I don't think Magnus plays that often for this reason. I'm not an expert.
I always thought of top chess guys like top poker guys. They only play so much to keep their ranking but mostly face off against the very tip top.

No shite. Look at Bobby Fischer, the former World Chess Champion from the U.S.
He was certifiably nuts and seriously went off the rails after leaving chess behind and living like a recluse the rest of his life.
Truth be told, he was going off the rails when active in chess and imagined all sorts of crazy things were being done to him by the Russians when he met for matches against their players, and especially Boris Spassky.
