My grandfather left me $50K when I was 25. Didn’t spend a cent and used it all plus interest as down payment on a new build house when I was 34. Baw, my note is cheaper than a 1 BR apt.

I got the parents' house in Metairie. Value keeps increasing. I also have a monthly trust income from the estate.
The IRS knows about it and I send them a payment every year.
Inheritance does get taxed. Depends on how it is set up.

Our entire inheritance was a box of MsNC's old family deteriorating 8mm movies, 35mm slides and stills. I managed to convert them all to digital with a musical backtrack. We had a big get together for her sisters on the oldest's 50th, and surprised them with the films. Really special.

I would have inherited $500,000. But I refused to take it, because mommy and daddy had taught me not to accept anything from mommy and daddy after the age of 18.

The retirement discussion got me thinking about it.
Personally, I haven’t and won’t. My kids did get some from their mother’s family, enough for a down payment on a house. I’m glad for them.
How about y’all?
Very thankful to not.

It’s cool to inherit a very significant amount of money and invest it successfully so you can pay tuition for your kids and grandkids. As well as leave them a fortune when you die.

I dont think Im going to get anything significant when my folks pass.
They already said that.
Parents are worth a lot, but that is mainly due to their property and real estate appreciation. I think we may have enough just to bury them and maybe home facility.
But, as for getting anything significant that will change my life. I dont think it will happen. To many siblings.

Does your mom live in Louisiana? Did your dad have a will?
She's entitled to the use of all of his assets until she dies, unless a will states differently.

I’ll inherit 5,000 dvds and a framed print of John Wayne.
Which will be a waste, because I’ve already bought my own copy of the John Wayne print.

Yeah $35,000. But the government wanted to take a big wet bite out of my arse.
Then a smart wife killing banker told me about a one time gift to my wife. Kept every red cent.

Definitely the smartest, most rational thing to do.

Surprisingly, he has kept most of it based off of that first day you wouldn’t have believed it
