same, all my sister(executrix,) asked of my was to just back her up, which I did, and I sort of oversaw her estate when she passed a couple of years ago, right after our mother died my older sister asked me to verify a valid mailing address for our "problem" sibling, when I contacted her her response was "does this mean I'm about to come into some money?" and she kept hounding me with texts, which I ignored,) until she got "her share" I was kind of sad for my parents for them to have gone out like that, family was so important to them

Families... you can't pick them.

Sorry I asked and you had to answer.

It sucks.

That kind of stuff shows what a person really is.

to avoid any issues and unnecessary contact she hired another lawyer to execute the will, it worked out pretty well, I'd recommend considering that route

That is solid advice that I will definitely take. It'll be worth the money to simply avoid any contact or potential confrontation.

My dad invested thousands of dollars in bitcoin, Amazon, and Google when they were all in their infancy. He’s just now about to sell and is giving me 90% of it. He said it’s substantial but I have no idea how much.

I’m just kidding, he gave me a 10 gauge a few years ago that he’s had for a long time. I think that’s gonna be it.

My mom is 90 and won’t write a will or make any arrangements for after her death. It’s a phobia for her. Her estate will be less than $500,000, split between four heirs.

This is insane behavior when you have children that aren’t close.

My grandmother is so prepared to die that she paid for her own funeral when she paid for my grandfather’s.

My wife and I prepaid for our own funerals while we were still in our 50s (and very much looking forward to living another 35 years). Our parents did it, and we saw what a huge load it took off the surviving children.

Zero inheritance here. Parents were dead beats. $3 million net worth.

Yes paid 4 college tuitions with it (fulfilled promise to my mother). The rest I put into my retirement and still have the property where I grew up. Holding on to a big part of it but will definitely liquidate a portion for my final retirement abode(s). Don't know if I could sell the other portion as it's been in my family for a very long time (pre civil war). Hate to be that guy if I don't have to and it's a nice backstop to have.

ETA after reading the whole thread: I'm an only child which certainly made things cleaner and easier.

In total, probably about 100k worth of assets over the years. Some as direct bequests and some from small shares of property I inherited that would go on to be sold thru the years. There should be significantly more down the line as different folks go on to glory, but obviously that is hopefully a long way off.

My grandmother owns a large farm with a few hundred acres. My mom will get 1/4th of that but my mom is 71 and has no intention to keep her share and wants to pass it to me and my two siblings. The land could be worth $25K or more per acre divided correctly

Will also get a sizeable bit when my mom passes.
