Thats why older people can't afford to stay in the house that's been paid off for years. After a certain age, you should be exempt from property taxes.
Old people consume all if not more of the majority of services paid for by property taxes. In many cases they get shielded from the school tax.
What really makes this suggestion ridiculous though is that everyone could put the deed in a parents name making fraud and abuse simple. Secondly, the bulk of the property tax burden would fall on young couples just starting out in life. If young people are already facing a hard time getting into to the home ownership demographic this idea would greatly exacerbate the problem.

I personally avoid Miami as much as possibly can. I don’t get what experience people are looking for to travel there. Way better beach type resorts to visit. The city itself offers very little.

am considering using this in order to avoid probate procedures for my children. What are the pitfalls/advantages?
I was looking through county tax records and saw that lots of properties are in RLT’s in that area. I did some research and if I recall there are other strategies to avoid probate, and the RLT makes the most sense if your assets are well over $5 million.

years. With the Baby Boomers entering retirement there are many businesses that are going up for sale. Has anyone had any experience in locating/vetting these types of businesses and, if so, did you work with any companies or services to assist in the process?
I personally feel like that is a target rich environment. I bought to businesses that were there for 30+ years.
You get a proven model that has survived lots of changes over time. In one instance I felt like there were lots of opportunities available that the owners hadn’t considered because they were too comfortable with what they had.
I have a business I only step into about 20 times a year because it was so established.
Always enjoyed Sun Valley, but we did that long drive from Boise rather than flying into Hailey.
We know spend a big portion of our season in Winter Park, CO. It’s by far the easiest ski to get to from Denver/Boulder.

Kids nowadays are being pushed towards the trades. Welding, HVAC, plumbing, etc and healthcare.
I for one applaud the anti-intellectualism movement being tiredly pushed by MAGA. Let their kids remain in the ditch digger class.

f the things property taxes paid for were actually done, fine. But our schools and roads are terrible, and our 1st responders shouldn’t need a 2nd job to live. I understand there are states that do it right. But not Louisiana. Or probably anywhere in the south.
Louisiana has really cheap property taxes but I would agree that residents get very little in return for their dollar.

absolutely loathe property tax time, but at least it's itemized in a way that shows you what amounts are going to what purpose
In Florida we get a Trim Report that breaks down what portion goes to schools, hospitals, airports, recreation fields, parks, roads, city and county government. I’m not sure I get that from other properties I own in other states.
I have attended municipal budget meeting and budget planning meetings. It’s very helpful to understand this process rather than hating on something you just don’t understand.
I think the biggest complaint people have with property taxes is the return on the dollar. In Louisiana and Florida I’d argue it’s not a great return. In Maryland it’s better, but I’d say that Colorado and Idaho provide an excellent return on the dollar.

a law abiding tax paying citizen, I truly don’t understand why there is a need to pay taxes on a property that’s paid for.
Excellent example of specious reasoning.

College baseball viewership is only going to increase and become more mainstream over the next 10-15 years
What makes you believe this? If anything economics and broadcasting changes point to the sport becoming even more regionalized.

Wait until you see your electric bills down the road. I’ve been buying utility stocks for this reason.

Not even close. Don’t have near the top end talent we have had in the past I can’t think of a single dominant first round arm on the roster. Respectfully
I feel like the staff has almost always been top heavy for the last 30 years. This is the first time I recall, having so many arms that could possibly make significant contributions this year.
Too early to say just how good the best pitchers will be, but there sure seems like a lot to choose from.

I’m pretty sure Boston College beat the Red Sox in an exhibition pre season game of some kind in Fenway almost 20 years ago.

100%. I’m going to educate them hard on personal finance (which for some terrible reason is not taught in schools) and I’ve thought about personally matching their retirement contributions up to a certain percentage in their early career years
Things I learned from my parents as well. Not sure why the answer is that everything needs to be taught in schools. Everything from baking cookies to wiping your arse to changing the oil in your car is supposed to be taught in schools. I’m not sure why people have children.
Rant over.
re: Four "tax friendly' states that are actually money pits for retirees

The northeastern dream of retiring to Florida is antiquated IMO. The insurance is a big issue as the article mentions. Aside from that there are hurricane issues along the coasts, lots of crime in many places, and the summers have gotten way worse than I recall in the past. I still live there part time but we stay there less often than we used to.
A lot of people think The Villages are great but I’ve long thought they are a cautionary tale of what happens to people that don’t plan well for retirement.
