My doctor actually does suggest this.

Had a bad cough several years ago and did a tea toddy with bourbon and slept through the night - cough was gone 24 hours later.

My mom always recommended a regular Coca-Cola for nausea. My mother-in-law liked 7UP.
We used to do orange or grape soda. I can't remember which.

The sunlight treatment seems to work for me and my family as well. If someone is sick with a cold and light fever you have to go lay on the trampoline and take a nap in the sun. For whatever reason it works
Indicative of a vitamin D deficiency. That's what your body makes when exposed to sunlight. Next time, just pop a few vitamin D's and go to bed.

A nice hot toddy fixes a lot of cold symptoms

Eat healthy and exercise rather than take a pill.
The medical industry promotes eating right and exercising, and it works to limit the chances of many diseases.

For a cough my grandmother would put a drop of kerosene on a teaspoon of sugar. The taste would make me try to hold in a cough for as long as possible.

How is this a home remedy?

Jaeger with lemon and honey instead of cough syrup.

My mom thought everything could be cured with Vicks vapor rub, vitamin c tablets, and gargling salt water. And if all else fails, wrap up in a blanket and sit in the sunlight.
All have benefits, but it’s the scope of how much they worked that she probably believed in a little too much.
My dad thought that if a man was sick he either was not drinking enough water or he was not getting laid enough.

My grandmother had a remedy for fever. Cut an onion in half. Place it cut side against the sole of the foot and secure it with string for about 8 hours. My dad swore it worked to break the fever.

Anyone else have a home remedy that is not supposed to work but does?
A man at our church's wife had Alzheimers and sometimes had accidents which caused UTI's, His mother had told him to use goldenseal capsules...not the kind that has any other herbs or rice powder added. He gave her one capsule per day and she never had another one. Antibiotics are given to those who have them but they kill not only the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria that would help prevent another infection from happening again so it becomes a vicious circle.

Just ensuring proper vitamin D levels would have changed to Covid pandemic completely. You never heard any of the so called experts even mention it.
They recommended the exact opposite. They closed the beaches and outdoor parks for God’s sake.

Home remedies the medical industry says do not work
don't give a shite what the medical community says; my local pharmacist sold them to me and i see zero downsides and dont give a frick if i start getting a craving for hay.

Growing up in a black household, anytime we were sick it was some ginger ale and a sleeve of saltines.
