If you notice: People who go to doctors a lot, they stay sick all the time.
freaking this!! ya'll feel free to laugh at me if i drop dead tomorrow but i don't even do my yearly wellness check consistently and in the past 5 years i can count on one hand the # of times i hit an urgent care and that was typically for a sinus infection or bad outbreak of poison ivy.
not to get political but the way my primary acted during COVID pissed me off the point i fired him and at the moment i dont even have one i go to consistently.
eta knock on wood, hope i dont get cancer or have a stroke or heart attack tomorrow, call a dr if erection persists for more than 6 hours, past performance is not indicative of future gains, etc etc

did anyone's Mom make you drink water through a fork to stop hiccups or was my Mom just fricking with me?
If you do things to completely take your attention away from the hiccups it can work. Like being jump scared or hopping on one foot while patting your head and rubbing your stomach.
I don't know the science, but it works.
Unless its the drunk hiccups, those for me just require breathing exercises and I can make them go away.

That has been around for thousands of years until the medicine became an industry

I do this every time I feel the twinge of a sore throat and the issue is gone in a day. don't know if that's the placebo effect or not, but it works.
Science behind this. And yes, it works. Doctors recommend it often.
quote:
Gargling warm salt water helps a sore throat primarily through osmosis, which draws excess fluid out of swollen throat tissues to quickly reduce pain and inflammation
Reduces Swelling: The salt creates a hypertonic solution that acts like a sponge, pulling water out of the inflamed cells in your throat to relieve pressure and discomfort.
Flushes Out Mucus: It thins and loosens sticky mucus, making it easier to clear irritants, allergens, and phlegm.
Removes Germs: As the salty liquid pulls out fluids, it draws viruses, bacteria, and irritants to the surface. When you spit the water out, you discard those trapped germs.
Provides Soothing Heat: The warmth of the water increases blood flow to the area, relaxes tense throat muscles, and provides an immediate numbing sensation.

A big dose of Castor Oil will resolve many childhood illnesses.
"My throat is sore."
"Take these two tablespoons of Castor Oil."
One week later:
"My throat is sore but I feel great 'cuz I don't want any more Castor Oil."

Put Tabasco sauce on your food and go outside and roll in the dirt.

To add to the sunglight one - I think going barefoot into the grass and laying down in the grass in the sun is even better.
Something about the earth on your skin and feet, paired with the sun, it feels very "healing".
I try to go barefoot in the yard as much as I can.

This is absolutely true. Sunlight = vitamin D Vitamin D = proven reduction in mortality (infections/viral/etc) and improved immuno and depression response/rate. If hospitals put patients outside for 20 minutes a day I’m 100% convinced stay duration and mortality rates would decline but it would be a pain in the arse for the nurses and you can’t bill for the sun so they don’t.
I have had doctors with varying opinions on the benefits of vitamins and supplements but my family feels like we’ve benefited a lot from them over decades. Difficult to prove one way or the other.
Vitamin D is one to be careful with because the excess amount consumed doesn’t get flushed out in the urine and stores in the liver. I take it, but not every day like B,C, & E.

I’m primarily advocating for D as a byproduct of exposure to the sun.
I agree completely that as a supplement it should always be accompanied with K2 to bond with any excess/unabsorbed D so it can be excreted.

Sun is the best source for Vitamin D. Naturally produced by the body in amounts body can handle.

Right. So does mine. I went to my annual wellness check yesterday and we talked about workouts and diet almost the entire time. He does IronMan races.
No pills prescribed or even mentioned. Just “keep doing what you are doing”.

Gargle with 4:1 ratio mixture of mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide for a sore throat. It knocks it out faster and better than anything pharmaceutical, other home remedies or just mouthwash alone.
The 12 hour mouthwash with cetylpyridonium works best.

So applying itch cream to my left ear lobe for a rash on my right leg shouldn't be considered a home remedy either then? Anyway, I'll let you go ahead and die on this hill.
