I tried to sell an older vehicle with a blown engine. I put in big bold letters that it doesn’t run and I still had people asking if it ran

That's why they call certain situations a “free for all”.

Just use the inverse of whatever credentials allow folks to be able post on our PoliBoard here.

As opposed to what? The classified ads in The Advocate nobody reads? Craigslist? Parking it in front of your house?

If you have a friend with a good business on a well traveled corner lot, that is the best I have to offer.

PS, if you can not sell it, I am courting a nice widow at the nursing home who has a granddaughter. Would you donate to me to give her?

That in a nutshell is why I don't sell anything. I mean nothing.

I drive my vehicles until they go to the salvage yard and smaller items get thrown away if I don't want them. Sure, I could maybe get a few bucks for household items I throw away, but it's not worth the hassle of dealing with the gen pop.

Donate the stuff/cars to St. Vincent de Paul. Very good charity.

I’ve sold a few. It’s a pain but doable if you’re willing to put up w/ jackasses like OP is talking about.

The return lost by trading in a car is a convenience fee. I would literally pay thousands of dollars to no deal with selling a car on the private resale market.

They aren't idiots.

They are hoping that you are.

Tell em the price is firm and that will eliminate most of the half-wits.

I agree with you though, even though I had sucess with the Jeep I sold.

We sold a few household appliances etc prior to moving to Az and it’s pretty exhausting. You just have to set your expectations low. And realize no matter what you are selling you’ll probably get low ball offers. And you’ll always get “is it still available?”
No dickhead it’s still posted but it’s been sold.

And how's that working out for you?

Just use one of the Give Me the VIN places. Your time and sanity is worth more than the $500 extra bucks you may make.

100% this. Have sold a few cars this way, and have always been within a few percentage points of what KBB tells me I should get by selling myself.

Scammers must be running that donation angle. Had the same thing happen to my stepfather concerning a camper. Guy offered to pay cash then showed up asking for a donation for his father. Just a ploy to panhandle.

Whatever you do, don't ever list anything FREE on marketplace. Either put it at the road or donate it. You could list an old dirty arse spatula for free and someone's going to want it, then ask you a million questions about it before asking you to meet 300 miles away.
