Few things are as demoralizing as the experience of selling a car on Facebook Marketplace

How do some of these people have the mental capacity to log on to a computer, click a mouse/type, and create an account? It amazes me. Half must be from a Russian or Chinese troll bot farm meant to demoralize the American people.

Had a guy show up yesterday after offering my asking price in cash over messages, then try to ask if I would consider donating it to him as a gift for his son's birthday. Not to mention the countless lowballs, scammers, or "is this available?"

I wish there was an IQ filter that I could use to weed out the idiots. Considering just biting the bullet and going the CarMax or trade-in route.

I mean that’s kind of on you. Who sells a car on Facebook?

Someone who wants close to market value as opposed to getting raked over the coals on a trade-in.

This is selling anything on FBM. When I have to get rid of something there, I dread it.

By the way, you can set an AI response to take care of the “is it available” bullshite, so that does help a bit.

It’s Facebook in 2026

The entire platform is either old people falling for fake news clips and AI images or fake news pages/bots from other countries

Fair enough. I’m willing to pay a little more vs deal with the people you are talking about, not to mention the safety.

As opposed to what? The classified ads in The Advocate nobody reads? Craigslist? Parking it in front of your house?

Don't list it on FB Marketplace would be the best IQ filter

I can imagine.

A couple of years ago I sold a skil saw that I couldn't get the blade off of. It worked otherwise. Made sure to put that in the description. A feller bought it for $10 and said he wasn't worried about the blade since he just needed to make a couple of cuts. Over a year later he messages me wanting his money back because he couldn't get the blade off.

I have really good luck selling/buying hunting gear on FB. Different product types attract different classes of people. Selling lawnmowers is a sh*t show.

Just use one of the Give Me the VIN places. Your time and sanity is worth more than the $500 extra bucks you may make.

Price it higher so you can haggle it down and get the real low ballers out

Ignore and any all is it available messages and wait for actual responses and judge/pre screen Facebook profiles before responding

its better to post in your neighborhood/school/community groups first, take a little less but a lot less hassle

I recently sold a boat on FB. Very specific description, but that doesn't stop the redundant ridiculous stupid questions.

How some people manage to survive is amazing.

List price is 3k
Can you take 2800?
Yeah sure
Ok well what about 2500?
Ok, but that’s my lowest price
How about 2200?
Dude!

I do admire the hustle but it gets aggravating.

Then the ones that message you for a lower end vehicle, have profile pics of guns, money, tats, and jewelry. Notice I didn’t say race.

I messed up and posted an old office trailer for free on Marketplace. "Buyer" has to pay to move it. I had 50 messages and many phone calls within an hour. I said whoever can get here first, agree to company needs while moving it and shake my hand gets the trailer. I had several show up about the same time. I thought there was going to be a scrap in the parking lot. It was a nightmare, but that trailer got removed from the property by an insured trailer moving company at no cost to us and our problem was resolved. Some guy from LP wanted to convert it to a house for his step-daughter. Wild times.
