know a guy who did this. He got busted with a hooker, lost his $250k engineering job and lost his wife too. He tried hiding money (over $400k if I remember correctly). Didn’t work. It’s the most lopsided divorce settlement I’ve ever seen. The judge nailed his azz to the wall.
Well that was an expensive nut.

I mean….you didn’t think this was odd??
Hindsight is always 20/20 a-hole.
I was raised in a very conservative/christian family with my parents staying together for 50 plus years.
I was fed all that happy wife happy life bullshite and that because she comes from a devout Catholic family she was trustable.
Again, hindsight is always 20/20. It was fricking hell to go through not 5 months after my brother passed away suddenly.

From my 1st wife I did. My grandfather and I were flipping houses right around the time I found she was running around.. So everything we did I left solely in his name until it was finalized and he just paid me in cash when flipped something

My husband buys things for his work and gets reimbursed in cash.
He does not tell me when this happens, but I check his wallet most mornings and sometimes I’ll take a $20 and go buy an overpriced espresso all by myself.
Is that the same thing?

And it wasn’t even a worthy one - bro was picking up cheap hookers in the French Quarter. He could’ve at least gone to Visions and splurged on a looker.
He was an engineer for one of the big gas companies in Houston but got transferred to New Orleans for a while. Got an apartment in N.O. and would fly in from Houston for work while the wife and kids stayed in Houston. Got busted for soliciting by an undercover cop in a French Quarter bar. Afterwards his wife got into his emails and found numerous exchanges with cheap hookers.

separate accounts.
This is the answer

No.
Deposited my paycheck into an account that we jointly held and trusted her with everything. Set up investments in a transparent manner all along the way.
Might not work for everyone, but I went all in on this relationship and have no regrets.

Hide everything you can.
Epic outbreak in gray divorces by empty nester woman who want their best lives now instead of being the nurse maid of an aging BAW.
Friends left weeks short of 30/40 years that are literally in late 4th quarter. Their therapists and BFFs cheer them on, some on social media. Vile too

I kept thinking the whole time “how is this legal? Why isn’t there an adult in the room (divorce court) to call bullshite on this? She cheats on me, we have no kids and I’m walking away with my clothes, dog and truck? Wtf?”
But she “wasn’t happy anymore” so it makes it ok.
I hear you. I was lucky, I had bought the house before we got married, it was in my name only. Her mother kept asking me to update it to put her name on and I had planned to do it, but just hadn't had time. Back then I worked over ah hour away from where I lived, so I had very long days and just didn't have time to deal with it.
My wife's note on our front door read "I'm tired of living for everyone else, I want to live for me", and then I opened the door and all the furniture was gone in the whole house. Cleaned it all out in one work day. Turns out she had been having an affair with an old high school flame. I've told that story several times on here before.

A friend of mine’s ex wife controlled their finances. They didn’t have much.
But she switched out their vehicle for a newer one. Convinced him to sign off on a home equity loan to remodel the house to add a bedroom so their kids didn’t have to share a room.
Once the remodel was done she promptly told him to get out and there was no money to divide and no equity in the house or car to split.
They had some student loans. She said hers were paid off, but she never paid on his, kept hitting the deferral button, and that was his problem now.
He showed up on our doorstep with $200 in his pocket and a duffle bag completely stunned.
I’m convinced she’s got funds stashed somewhere.

She cleaned our accounts out while I was at work.
I had a brief foray into family law but hated it. I hated the "let's race to the bank account and see who can drain the account first" nonsense. I have seen a few times where the wife or husband drains 1/2 the account because they are worried the other spouse will drain everything.
If I was a Judge, I'd be tough on account drainers. In a small parish, the word would eventually get out "bad things happen to those who drain the accounts."

Imagine putting that much thought into divorce instead of marriage

Not to worry. You likely won't have them to sell when she gets them in the property settlement. Women go for the jugular when ending a marriage and will try to get anything you deeply love on their side of the settlement contents.

You could probably easily hide a nice emergency stash just in case but a large net worth is a lot harder to hide unless you just hide a bunch cash somewhere.
If you put it into any type of asset, they will likely find you and the punishment wouldn't be worth it.

Maybe, but would require them to spend some time learning the difference between a doll and an action figure.
