I never thought I would be a small dog guy and last winter I got my wife and daughter a Yorkie and she is by far my favorite. Doesnt shed, hardly ever barks, loves to be at someones side or on their lap, trains easily, good with routine, sleeps in her pen through the night, loves other dogs and people and doesnt eat up all our shite (shoes, furniture, etc)
You either got a rare gem, or you’ve put in a lot of consistent work training it.
Most yorkies are little shits. They know what they’re supposed to do, they just don’t care and will absolutely steam roll a weak owner and run the show.

When you get a rescue that means a dog from a litter has nowhere to go. Very often these dogs are given to a rough crowd and introduced to fighting.
Tough shite for the purebreed. The rescue came from a litter and by definition has nowhere to go. Rescues are cheaper up front and in the long run. Also more loyal because they were “rescued” from a bad situation.

Labs. ESP with young kids. They’re the best dogs

Standard poodle. Smart as hell and do not gave to mess with constant shedding. This is coming from a previous golden retriever owner with 2 small boys. And your wife will thank you about the shedding, those goldens shed on EVERYTHING!

With kids, can’t beat a boxer! Literally just another big kid in itself. Protective but never aggressive to kids

Been thinking about what my next dog will be. I've always liked Golden Retrievers, Golden Doodles and Chocolate/Black Labs. Dog is going to need to be around young kids. Not really looking for anything larger than a golden retriever. Any recommendations for best overall dog breed?
those are all good dogs

I'd consider and AussieDoodle. You get the intelligence and personality of an Aussie with less shedding.

Boxer is the best breed in the world for families with kids.

Mutts often have temperamental problems- often due to past experiences, and often health problems.
More times than not, you know what youre getting with a pure bred dog.
I'm pretty biased to pointers. I have german shorthairs, and a vizsla. By far the best dogs ive ever had. The vizsla probably takes the cake out of the 2 breeds tho.

Depends on your lifestyle. If you’re a girly man, golden doodle. If you work in a plant and drink beer every night, lab. If you lift and are active, German shepherd

It’s hard to beat a Golden Retriever. We have one that’s just 2 years old, and it’s been a great dog. Our children are now grown, but I’m sure he would be terrific with young kids, too.
The Golden Retriever is just such a wonderful breed of dog.

Boxers
I've got a boxer/doberman mix that wandered into my in-laws backyard off the streets. The dude had probably 2-3 days left before he was a goner, ribs and hip bones sticking out.
He has been one of the best dogs I've ever had. His biggest con was that he was a flight risk the first couple of years (probably how we ended up with him) but that has been fixed since then. He love attention, incredibly gentle with the kids, goofy as hell, and one of the most protective dogs I've ever had resulting in more than a few Jehovah's witnesses being scared away before they reached the door.

I have a Vizsla and hunt behind her. She’s has a ton of personality and is the smartest dog I’ve ever owned. Love the breed and will likely stick with it going forward.

Sorry, you can’t have her.

By in large, there are many different terrier breeds that make really good pets. Best dog I ever had was half wire haired terrier and half cocker spaniel. Golden Retrievers are the best all around dog, but can be too big and shed too much for some people. I would get one smaller than 30lbs if you have little kids, and that would put you in the terrier range. People down playing mutts are stupid. What the hell do you think those fancy Golden Doodles and Maltipoos are that you paid $2000 for? Idiots.
