I have a mini Australian Shepherd and she is amazing with my kids. My only issue with her is that she tries to protect the house too often. By protect the house I mean snap at strangers if they try to pet her. She never has this issue on walks or anywhere in public, only at our house.

In the market for a pup and have checked around a few shelters. The adoption/application process is more intensive than trying to adopt a kid. Once Upon a Tail in Mandeville's application was like 6 pages long. I understand wanting to make sure they go to a decent home and won't be used for fighting, but shite
Went by Northshore Humane Society just to LOOK at the dogs, not even try to begin any sort of adoption process yet and the girl working there would only show us the cats (weren't even interested in a cat) because we let it slip that we didn't have a fence YET

Where are you? If by chance the Houston area check out Camo rescue. They’ve got some beautiful pups.

I have a buddy who had an Aussie. It snipped at me once so I bit him back on his ear. He was my padnuh after that.

My Boykin Spaniel is awesome.
Loves everyone, beautiful, loyal, playful, and very intelligent.
I hate when the "TIME COMES!"
The average lifespan of a Boykin is 16, so that's a big plus as well

What has been your experience with yellows compared to black/brown?
Our yellow male was very driven and full of energy, but very skittish. He was scared to death of thunder and fireworks, granted, I didn't hunt with him. My wife was convinced he had doggy autism. I hunted with my black female, which nothing scared her.
But that was just him, I've seen yellows that were really good hunting dogs. Every dog can obviously be different.
Like I said in my previous thread, our current chocolate is friggin hardheaded, and does what ever she wants, until I put that electronic leash on her..
Another, they have these silver labs they're breading now, I was told they're dumb as shite.

Not a dog breed. you can just say mutt. same with golden doodles.
All those mixed designer breeds are essentially mutts. there's no way around it. They are not recognized by the AKC, and i believe the UKC as well.
While that's true, I'd suggest that some of these "mutts" absolutely show consistency when it comes to demeanor. To the OPs question, it's meaningful.
I've found most mixes with poodles are really, really good dogs.

Bulldogs and Frenchies are fun but high maintenance. Health wise and sometimes training wise.
PSA… read up on any breed before you get one so you know what to expect.

German Shepherd.
You havent truly owned a dog until youve owned a GSD.

Any dog would be fine with young kids with the right amount of training (unless it’s a rescue/older dog and already has some established habits). The better question, to me, is how much time do you want to spend with the dog? German shepherds are incredible protectors and usually good with kids when raised around them, but are very high maintenance and require lots of walks/energy drainers and will be tough to have if you don’t do keep exercise them.
We opted for low maintenance since we have full time jobs and kids that demand more of our attention. Our golden retriever is now almost 4 and he’s perfect. He’s on the bigger side for the breed (90lbs) and can be a bit of a bull in a China closet, but he was awesome with my newborn despite never really being around newborns before. He loves EVERYONE—even the mailman. He’s happy to just be around us and he’s fine if we miss some walks. Some dogs struggle with listening when they’re not tired, but he’s smart and still listens to commands extremely well even if he hasn’t been walked. He pretty much just sleeps until we start paying attention to him. Best dog I’ve ever owned by far.

Pugs are 100% stupid and one of the most useless animals I've ever owned..
Next time you should try buying one from a reputable breeder instead of somebody’s 1996 suburban selling animals in the parking lot of Dollar General

Puggle. Beagle Pug mix. Loyal, kind, and smart. I've had two. Both good girls.
