Best dog to get?
Posted by Yeahbuddy35 on 9/12/23 at 5:54 am

Been thinking about what my next dog will be. I've always liked Golden Retrievers, Golden Doodles and Chocolate/Black Labs. Dog is going to need to be around young kids. Not really looking for anything larger than a golden retriever. Any recommendations for best overall dog breed?

I don't know but don't submit a pic of it to Gun and Garden. I can't do this again.

It’s hard to beat a Golden Retriever. We have one that’s just 2 years old, and it’s been a great dog. Our children are now grown, but I’m sure he would be terrific with young kids, too.

I'll throw a vote in for a boxer. Brindle is prettiest to me. Ours was great w kids, athletic and so funny to play with and watch be silly and ADHD.

Golden Retrievers.
I’ve never had a better dog than my current golden retriever.
They can be a bit needy but they are by far the most loyal, obedient and loving dogs out there

Wheaten terrier
Non shedding (bigger deal than you think)
Hypo-allergenic
Great with kids
Soft and fluffy
Very friendly
Not too smart but obedient
Pic from google:
Ours is 6 now. Now having had one I wouldn’t consider getting another breed. She has been the best pup.

Boxers. The only breed I've had my whole life, I'm 54. Of course, everyone has different personalities and look for different qualities in dogs. For me, Boxers are a great breed... great family dogs, protective of children, loyal, not overly aggressive, and very good at reading people.
They are hyper and require attention and exercise, they love to play. I've had as many as 4 at once and they are a blast to watch interact. Just my 2 cents.

I never thought I would be a small dog guy and last winter I got my wife and daughter a Yorkie and she is by far my favorite.
Doesnt shed, hardly ever barks, loves to be at someones side or on their lap, trains easily, good with routine, sleeps in her pen through the night, loves other dogs and people and doesnt eat up all our shite (shoes, furniture, etc)

If I ever buy something other than a Lab it would be a Boykin.
Some of the best dogs I've ever had were pups that just showed up at my or a friend's house. I know a feller who is fostering a couple of nice pups in Baton Rouge right now.

Maltipoo.
Ready with kids. Doesn't shed. Can still fetch in the yard. Easy to crate train. Eats very little.
The kids and I take her to the park and all the little kids come see. She loves it and doesn't bark and is not aggressive.

Golden or a Lab is always a great choice if you have kids. Mild disposition, great with kids, and super smart. I had always had people tell me Chocolate Labs are nuts but I have 2 that are the best labs I've ever owned and I've had probably 10 or 12 during my life.
