Some of my favorites with the admission that all dogs vary within the breed as well as between breeds.
Miniature Daschund- relatively long life, incredible personalities, good guard dogs
Jack Russell- athletic, long lived. Active, loving
Havanese - more even tempered. Gentle, affectionate
Wheaten Terrier - sweet, not as smart as some, good with kids
Border Terrier - small active, sweet, tough
German Short-haired Pointer - athlete, working dog, smart
Poodle- smart, don't shed, generally long lived, originally hunting dogs
Cavalier King Charles- wonderful dogs especially gentle and sweet. More than their share of health problems
Sheltie - sweet, smart, loyal
Labrador- default hunting dog, chow hound that sheds too much but saintly in their affection and loyalty (unless the other guy has bacon)

Don’t get anything that has beagle in it.

Cavilier King Charles Spaniel. Great around kids - great temperment. Likes to take naps (mine naps next to me on the couch). Beautiful flowing locks. Mine is white with brown spots.
I was skeptical when we got her (we had a Shih Tzu before) but she won me over in one week.

Wirehaired pointing griffons. Excellent companions!
——
Now suffering through the puppy stage (4.5 months) of a Double Doodle. Mom is a Labradoodle and dad is a Pointerdoodle. One grandma is a gorgeous silver lab and the other grandma is a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. The grand dads are Moyen Poodles (medium, or between standard and minature).
Already a smart pup and obedient for a pup. Great genes. Hope she lives up to its breeding.
Doesn’t shed, will have a curly tan coat, and the face is a broader version of the long poodle snout. And those eyes! Beautiful yellow-green eyes of a lab and lots of white showing — almost human eyes.
A water loving dog for sure.
She was a big ball of brown puppy fluff but we had her sheared early because of the heat and her love of water.

Golden retriever is the way to go here with kids. We have had 2 of them over my life span. They are fantastic with kids and extremely smart. Love this breed

Rescue. Best dogs I've ever owned
The problem I have found with rescues is they are all pit bulls.

My advice, at least if you’re going to let it in the bourse, get one that doesn’t shed.

Does anyone have experience with miniature pinschers?
Stay away. Skittish.

Best dog to get?
There is no one good answer as any breed can get a good one or a bad one I believe and you might want from a lap dog to a hunting dog so it all just depends.
In saying that I have had 3 Labs: 2 black and 1 yellow and all 3 were wonderful family dogs for my kids. All of them had totally different personalities though.
This brings me to today where now I have a Boxer. I am amazed everyday how totally different boxers are than labs. This dog is so goofy, vocal, but supper loving and loves everyone of our family members that comes by.
She is also very protective of her house when somebody she doesn't know comes over but I do not think would really do anything just likes to make a show!
Boxers are wonderful dogs but just like labs need lots of attention to not do bad things.
